    Climbing

Hi everybody! I'd like to show you my last video I did about climbing in Mallorca. I hope you like it! EpicTV Video: "This New Crag in Majorca Is Really Freaking Cool | La Isla Bonita, Ep. 3"
  3. Hi, We require the services of a freelance tree climber in the Cumbria area for a mid-week job coming up (and potential further work in the future). Must have NPTC CS38 or equiv, and own kit (with up to date LOLER cert). Own Insurance not necessary as can be covered on company insurance. Please email Rich at [email protected] with experience/CV and a day/hour rate. Thanks
  4. Title says it all really! Be nice to get out on the weekends occasionally to do a bit of climbing
  5. Hello Guys, whats your opinions on recreational climbing ? as harnesses are expensive for me, would a rock climbing harness do for a recky climb?? any advice on building confidence? Thanks, James.
  6. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvSAlOREe-8&list=UU2TSFy9wbZLR5jfeW6gWrGg&index=1]101 uses for the ART SnakeTail - YouTube[/ame] Hi guys, the video above is as the forum title suggests, an almost painfully long attempt to cover every possible use for ART's soon-to-be-released SnakeTail system. There are probably about 30 - 40 legit in-tree uses interspersed with some more creative attempts. The system will be on sale soon - the only thing left to do is write the manual, which (given that the uses for the system include flagging down helicopters, bedroom play and cross-dressing) might take some time. We don't have a price yet. (I was going to put this in the video forum where it probably belongs, but then I figured that it was advertising new climbing kit so maybe it ought to be here? )
  7. I'm currently doing a arb & forestry couse and in about a years time i will be able to go for my climbing and chainsaw test. I don't want to spend money on doing a 1 week course now so i was just wondering. What tree work can i do without having any tickets.
  8. Hi everyone, I moved into the academic side of the industry this year but am desperate not to let my skills and fitness decline, therefore its seems natural to look into recreation climbing. I have been out to a few local trees but it soon occurs to you that finding and gaining permission to climb the more interesting looking trees is the main issue along with having someone around who can help if you get into a little difficulty. Can anyone share experiences or even trees which where permission may be granted? I assume there are some formal clubs too but I am not sure if this is the case. Regards, squiralsquasmosis
  9. Hi, I have been dismantling a jewditsia (have no idea on spelling) tree today which two of the four main limbs were leaning over the roof of the house and a conservatory and green house and to make things a little easier there was a BT phone line going through the middle of the whole tree. The thing I found hard today was when I had removed the limbs over the roof and cables I had only one limb to finish but soon realized that I need to go further out onto the limb so I could clear the cable the only problem was this limb had become horizontal with nothing to tie into above. (this limb was also the tallest limb hence the chosen limb for my tying in point and rigging) I just wanted to ask (generally to make me feel better, hopefully!) has anybody got into that situation where they are going horizontal to the highest possible tying in point and had to get underneath the limb and basically scrabble there way to the end whilst getting cramp and having to tie in every two feet. Before you ask there was no access for a crane and couldn’t get a cherry picker there as it was at the bottom of a very steep garden. Please make me feel better because I felt like a right prat.

  15. Hello there, I have recently purchased and received the 'Yale XTC-Plus' rope from Honey Brothers. It was sent to me with large amounts of twists in the rope. As I have little experience in climbing so far, I was wondering if anyone knows any easy and efficient methods of un-twisting rope, as it is a pain to climb with. Thanks, Treespasser

  18. Hello We are a small, inner city, tree company in Sydney, Australia We have been in the industry for close on 30 years. We are seeking a climber/s for our company. The criteria are many, but here's a few - thinking through a job calmness respect for other members of the crew ability to communicate ideas and work practices to clients. The work is quite varied, always technical and with the occasional big tree take down. The successful applicant would eventually take over the day to day running of the business. We would be willing to sponsor an applicant after a trial period. All initial enquiries include your experience, qualifications, contact details to - [email protected]
  19. A small personable Arboricutural Association 'Approved Contractor' based on the Oxon/Glos/Wilts borders. We require a highly motivated NPTC certified (minimum 30., 31, 38, 39, 41 and perferably a current first-aid certificate) Climber to work in our arb team. The successful applicant should be a very hard worker and must have at least 5 years CLIMBING experience, with big trees and working with cranes or you must be someone that has that extra spark and natural ability, with a good working knowledge of BS standards and tree biology. We are keen to know what your strengths and weaknesses are.... A full CLEAN driving licence is essential with classes B & E or pre 97. References are required and will be followed up, and email with your CV would be great!!! Excellent salary & other perks depending on qualifications, skills and experience. There are 28 days holidays per annum. The position is permanent on a full time basis or contract if preferred
  20. Ive seen arborists working on anything from crown thinning to actually cutting sections down the trunk. They seem to be using several different ropes obviously i know the anchor. But what is the one they use to strap from their harness around the tree and back to the harness? Is it an average rope or a strop or a lanyard? Ive also seen them use a similar rope in set of two when climbing first time, alternating between the two ropes whilst gradually getting higher up the branches. What are they using? Sorry about the silly question im new to arboriculture doing a college course next year want as much info as i can get cheers
  21. Ive just gone out and brought The tree climbers companion ive been reading through all its packed with information i find it a really good read. I Had a go at a few knots in it and i actually tried out the traditional climbing system. I didnt climb as i dont have a harness yet i just put it on a low crotch and leant back holding the working end. Is it just me or when you pull on the running end and slide the blakes hitch friction knot up it moves, but if you pull back on the working end it does not move, so theoretically could you climb with just the climbing system and a harness then be suspended up the tree without sliding down? Without any additional stoppers or ascenders?
  22. Its that time again - The East of England Cutters and Climbers Competition is upon us once more (and I'd only just suppressed the memories of last year). Gratefully sponsored once again by arbtalk.co.uk and arbjobs.com (amongst others!). Same old routine (more or less); book your place, get your tickets, turn up, climb a tree, cut one down, have a laugh and win some prizes. Same events as last year, except we're dropping the bar and chain change for a head to head pole climb. Cos everyone loves spikes!! Ha ha. We're looking at a simpler ranking system this year, with prizes for the top handful for each event but the big prizes going to the best all rounders who complete all three events. Due to financial stress we are regretfully charging £5 per event or £10 for all three. Competitors tickets are still free though! Post your questions and I'll do my best!
