  1. Hi Guys Wondering if anyone might know what's wrong with my 200t. It usually starts of fine, then after using for maybe 10/20 mins it starts to rev by itself, then bogs down in the cut and then eventually just starts cutting out and gets to the point of not starting Cheers
  2. I recently acquired an old 621, with a breaker points ignition system and I have not been able to get it to spark. I have replaced the plug and cleaned the points but I can not get a spark. If anyone has experience with this sort of an ignition system or know how I can get it to spark, The help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Hi all, I'm confusing myself with all the new NPTC course names, of course most are self explanatory but there are some almost duplicate entries that I wouldn't mind a training provider (or student!) making a little clearer if possible. I'm about to undertake some some intensive Arb courses and want to prioritise what is the 'better' award, and what is just overkill for an entry level climber. Firstly, what does this compare to in terms of CS? It's only a level 2 award and I thought this was covered by the level 3's aerial pruning, using a chainsaw in a harness and cutting using free fall techniques > 002005 City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Branch Removal and Crown Breakdown using a Chainsaw (QCF) There are two rescue courses now, is the level 3 worth the extra time money (obviously more rescue training can never be a bad thing, but in terms of employability )? > 002013 City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue (QCF) > 002106 City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Rescue Operations (QCF) And lastly, what is this? Is it groundie rigging based or general site stuff? > 002008 City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Supporting Colleagues Undertaking Off Ground Tree Related Operations (QCF) Thanks in advance!
  4. My cheap Chinese chainsaw experience I have noticed that even though everyone, has seen or heard of the cheap Ebay/Amozon chainsaws, there are suprisingly few reviews of the things on here. So I figured I would give my take on china's finest. I will start by explaining, how i got into a situation in which I needed to buy something with such...... questionable reliability. It all started when some dumb f*ck delivery driver, "left my package with a neighbor" that package being a nice reconditioned Jonsereds 80. To make a long story short he just left it on my driveway, and inevitably got nicked. Needing a chainsaw desperately to finish felling, some 32" ash on a neighbors property, I go on to eBay and order the "beast", and well this is my experience with the saw. It started well out of the box, and felled and bucked 2 32" ash trees with (about 2 cords of firewood). But after that initial victory it started to run into issues, First the chain ,that came with the saw, snapped in two and few of into the brush. Then a couple days later the pull starter assembly broke. I contacted the company that sold me the saw (SGS engineering), who sent me out a new pull starter and chain. I fitted the pull starter and threw the chain in the bin, so I could fit a better/safer Oregon chain. After about a month of using it most weekends and cutting, a further 3 cords of firewood (hardwood between 10" and 25"). After which point I replaced the stock bar and gave it a new Oregon chain. A week after this point the Anti vibration/felling handle got bent, but it was easy to bend back into shape and has cause no further problems. So scores on the doors Customer service: 10/10 great customer service, sent spare parts with little hassle Quality: 7/10 Ok, but probably not great for anything more than homeowner use. Safety: 4/10 Not that good, previously mentioned flying chain and the chain break is off low quality. So overall I would probably not recommend to anyone cutting more than a cord or 2 of wood a year, and I would definitely recommend replacing the chain if you go with this saw. 5. We are pleased to introduce our 2 in 1 tree pusher and lifter. This simple manual product offers 3 tons of force to make felling trees safe and convenient. The ratchet system allows force to be applied to the tree to make the direction of the fall easy to control. The product can also be used for lifting logs from the ground, making it easier to cut with the logs with a chainsaw. This product is available for purchase now at a reduced price of £99 including UK delivery.
  6. New product from Rotatech. We would love to hear your thoughts. Our reasoning for bringing out the Chainsaw Adviser is to help customers that need replacement chainsaw chains, but don't know the spec. It will help you measure the Pitch and Gauge. When you order the adviser, you will get a discount code for £2.99. This will give you your money back on your next chain purchased with us. The tool measures the pitch (distance between two points on the chain) and gauge (thickness of drive link). Video demonstration is Have you tried it? Would you try it? Any other thoughts?
  7. Good afternoon, I get firewood for my stove which needs to be chopped and split (cheaper / free), and my little Stihl MS181 has done well for the last few years for what I need. I have a backlog of logs to chop this year, so I am thinking I can lay into these in the evenings if I take them into the garage with the lights on and with an electric chainsaw. - I can saw in the evenings when the kids are in bed so a quieter saw is better (winter daylight is limited, I want The Boys to play out for as long as its light, The Smaller Boy runs off in tears when I get the chainsaw out when he is out - limiting what I can do) - There is a ready power supply in he garage - No concerns about fumes - The logs are smaller diameter, 6" - 10", not tree trunks - later in the year the logs can be stacked inside to dry (got to burn the dry ones there first) So what should I be looking for? - I am guessing the more power the better? 2kw? - Chain speed - for a similar powered saw will the chain speed vary much since the saws I've seen so far all quote power over everything else - Second hand is cheaper - so what should I be looking to pay? Or would new be better for the increase in price - any recommendations, I see another post on here saying "Titan" could be a brand to look out for? Are Sihl electric saws really worth the premium? - Not too fussed about battery powered since I will be within reach of a socket - Chains and bars - would these be easy to swap to better quality if it came with a generic cheap one? (thinking to put on the same as my Stihl so I can use the same chains - then only really need 1 spare for both saws) Thanks in advance for any advice, and sorry for being a heretic and thinking about electric motors rather than 2 stroke engines. I don't want to go to a shop to ask for the advice because I have no will power to say no when they show me shiny new toys.
  8. Break in last night to my work New Forest Garden Machinery in Totton Hampshire. Thieving scum bags peeled back the roof to gain access at 3 am this morning. We think around 10 Stihl chainsaws were stolen. all locked up but the gits were in and out in 3 minutes. We are only a small family run company and things like this really set you back. if offered anything brand new in the hampshire/dorset/wilts area ring the police please. Just sorting through CCTV and serial numbers now so will post up images soon.

  10. Hello everyone, I have a tree in my back garden and it needs removing. The tree unfortunately leans over into our next door neighbors house/garden, It's quite a large tree about 20ft tall and the trunk is about 4ft wide, In the bad winds and rains when the branches fall they all go into the neighbors garden braking there ornaments becoming quite the headache. Anyway i need some info on what kind of chain i need and what chainsaw and if you know where there are and chainsaws for sale shop's/site's would be great The image below is an example of what is in my garden, i will have to get one of the kids to get a picture of my actual tree up asap. Thanks everyone http://housetohome.media.ipcdigital.co.uk/96/0000121dc/6386_orh550w550/Herbaceous-border-in-English-country-garden.jpg
  11. Evening all. Last night I came home late is to go out, parked my truck outside my hose and went out in the car. I came home this afternoon to find the truck unlocked and my Stihl MS200t missing from the back of the truck This is the second time this week. the first was just about £3.50 in loose change and a half bottle of aftershave but last night was the saw. My guess is that there using a Ford master key as i know 110% my truck was locked. Ill see if i can get the seriel number from Honey Brothers in the morning. Its a 2009 model which I bought new. The saw has 'Nick Stevenson' engraved on the air filter cover, the side plate and on the bottom of the saw. If anyone hears about it (which I highly dout) please ring me on 07961691340. Thanks Nick
  12. Hey guys, as far as I'm aware, the Super Sexy chain oil from Northern Arb supplies is the best value for a 25l bottle (I don't want any more than that!), but I was wondering if anybody on here knew of anywhere cheaper to get chain oil?
  13. SilverBull worked with Arborist first aid trainers for 2 years identifying the essential first aid items needed for Climbing Arborists or anyone using a chainsaw. A C.A.T Tourniquet and 6” Israeli Bandage are two potentially lifesaving items that with the right training, can be used to quickly stop a catastrophic bleed. The SilverBull P.A.T (Personal Arb Trauma) kit is designed to contain these two essential items and easily attach to a belt or climbing harness. The easy open function and “pull cord” release feature means the system can be easily operated using one hand. The bright orange colour and green First Aid symbol, make the SilverBull P.A.T Kit clearly identifiable by colleagues. The new Silverbull Arb Trauma Kit and it's contents are available at TREEKIT now. The new Silverbull Arb Trauma Kit and it's contents are available at TREEKIT now.

  19. Hi All. I'm based in the Carmarthenshire area near the end of the M4. For a few years now I have fancied organising a public fair/show for woodcrafters to sell their products, sculptors to demonstrate their skills and for arborists to compete in demonstration competitions. Would also be good to have some tool and equipment suppliers on site to show their products. More than anything this would be a means of the public seeing the craft involved and for local tradesmen and artists to show their skills.... Whilst giving something a bit different for the local community to experience. If you are anywhere near this area, or would be up for travelling a little to get involved, please do let me know. I saw some great shows in the states and would love to see the same here. What I would think would work would be: - Arborist competitions. - Chainsaw sculpting. - Green woodworking. - Woodturning. - Carving. - Trade stands. - Eco-education. ... anything else you guys think could be fun. I would also love to hear from anyone who would be interested in getting involved to help organise this... woodcraft is my passion but there is a lot I will confess to not knowing. Thanks everyone and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Rob

  23. Hi all, first time posting here. I've just been given an old Homelite Super XL automatic. It's strong and runs really well but the chain is knackered and seems to of stretched? I've extended the guide bar as far as it will go but it's still loose enough to get 2 fingers between the chain and the bar. My question is... What's the best option for replacing the chain, without breaking the bank? The current chain has 70 inner teeth and 35 cutting on a 14" bar.
  24. We are offering the following courses in the next few months if anyone is interested....
