  1. Hi all, I currently work 5 days a week for a company as an arb surveyor/consultant. I am looking to earn some extra cash by carrying out some local surveys and providing reports on weekends for mostly risk assessments and tree management reports. I may end up doing some small BS5837 and subsidence reports but will mostly do these through work due to the complexity and other reasons. Are there any liability/insurance etc. issues I need to sort before I can get started? I am fully qualified with several years experience. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
  2. Calling all tree working companies based around Sheffield-Nottingham-Doncaster-Lincoln areas are you looking for a chance to have networking events in your area where you can discuss topics related to our industry and meet like minded business owners who want to grow their business? Leave a comment with your company name and area for an invitation to a free event held in your area

  4. Hi all, Me and my friend are planning on starting a partnership (unlimited) next year. we both work in the horticultural sector but as employees only, no managerial experience. We are planning on working for both private home owners and the local authorities, purely grounds maintenance. can anyone tell us what licenses and/or qualifications we will need to work for these clients. eg waste carrier license ect Sorry if we sound stupid on here, we know what the work entails as we do it on a daily basis but we do not know the legal/ paper work side of it. thankyou for you time any help/advice is appreciated. based in oxfordshire
  5. Hi all, I'm an arb of 5 years eperience, and former regular to arbtalk.com but have been out of the game for a few years due to a shift to a different industry. I'm missing the work, and was wondering if there is any scope to get back into it part-time. A few ideas I'm toying with are: Becoming a gun for hire (although I'm a bit rusty); Getting work with an arb firm on weekends and when I can get leave from my day job; Setting up as a sole trader (Have Saws, PPE, Tickets, Climbing kit, but no van or chipper) and doing smaller domestic work, including some gardening if neccessary. Can anyone offer some advice, and whether setting up a business just to do 0-20 hours work a week is viable. Thanks in advance, Gareth
