  1. A reminder of my video course that teaches how to create top quality tree plans for BS5837 surveys. See how to scale properly and make trees from blocks. I can do plans for you if you don't have the time or inclination to do them yourself. Hope you find it useful. ActionCAD's Create Tree Constraints Plans Course SCREENCAST-O-MATIC.COM
  2. Evening. I am a Midlands based Arboricultural Consultant & Surveyor available for sub contracted technical work for the next 3 months be it full or part time. I am mobile and available immediately countrywide if enough work is there.15 years of experience in BS5837:2012 development site surveying and reporting as with large scale VTA surveying and reports on both the private and LPA sides. Have been working in a self employed capacity since 2011. I am ideally looking for large scale tree surveying work for the next 1-3 months full time but will consider any offers. CV and referees available on request. Many Thanks
  3. I'm starting to wonder whether life as an independent consultant would be the way to go. Can anyone advise on a suitable setup in terms of a GPS device to collect the survey data, and software to collect and download the tree survey data and produce tree plans, especially plans for BS5837? I can write my own professional AIA and AMS report and would rather do my own tree protection plans than pay for someone else to do them. I presume I would need some sort of professional indemnity insurance too. Any advice welcome as this is all new to me.
  4. Morning Chaps can anyone tell if there is any mention to the acceptable incursion into the RPA (%) in the BS5837 or anywhere else I can find a mention of a recommended level? hit me back
  5. Hi all, genuinely asking for a friend current price for a pucker BS5837 Survey and Report? Also current price for Condition Survey? Context? 3 Mature trees in garden/road by boundary of fence line and one extension to property required...
  6. While searching for a copy of BS 5837:2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction - Recommendations..... I came across a PDF copy on a District Councils website (see link below). Can anyone tell me if this is the full document? The one from the BSI website? Thanks in advance, Steve
  7. BS5837 (referring to NHBC 4.2) makes very clear recommendations as to the distance that new planting should be from existing buildings. The distances are greatest for tall, 'thirsty' deciduous trees in clay soils adjacent to buildings with shallow footings. Can anyone offer a view or legal precedent as to how much duty there is to take BS5837 into account, on the part of a developer designing, or the Planning Authority in determining a planning application? The case concerns an extensive mitigation planting carried out as part of a planning permission.
  8. I don't know if I'm being treated as an idiot or not -help! I have a single eucalyptus cider gum tree in my garden, it's stem is 510 in radius at 1.5m height, approx 12m tall and in a healthy state. Which makes an RP radius of about 6 metres(?). The tree is on my land and close to a neighbouring development, so has been given a bs5837 rating of C3 by them/their report for the following reasons, is this correct, does lack of biodiversity make it a C3 tree always as a Eucalyptus? Their response to me when I queried the category...; With regards to the categorisation of the tree, this decision was made following an appraisal of the tree, the species and its location. Eucalyptus offer no foraging value to our native invertebrates and are of little value to local biodiversity therefore the tree does not have the 'material or other cultural value' that would require it to be categorised as a 'B'. Eucalyptus as a species are also particularly vulnerable to wind throw which will direct future management in the future and limit its wider amenity value.
  9. Hi All, I'm conducting some research as part of my professional diploma into how arboriculturists interpret the British Standard and use sub-category 3 for assessing the bio-diversity values of trees when undertaking BS5837 surveys. If you undertake BS5837 surveys on a professional basis, have the time and inclination I would appreciate if you would complete my survey which can be found at this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1xsadfajMO-OO708x113B_Whs7D_944wjmI2r-AOLv-0/viewform?usp=send_form Thanks in advance. Jim
  10. We are currently expanding our client base and are looking to gather together a small list of qualified and reliable self employed tree surveyors for on site data collection throughout Greater London, Surrey, Hampshire, Kent and surrounding counties in the South and South East. The majority of work will be data collection conforming to BS5837:2012 on proposed development sites and also on larger scale tree health and safety survey sites. Relevant Level 3 qualification in Arboriculture and Professional Tree Inspectors certificate required as a minimum. Previous experience and Driving licence essential. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
  11. Hi all, im interested to hear what software/hardware any tree consultants/surveyors on these forums are using At present we are using a set of Trimble recons running Trimble terrasync to collect data in the field. These are extremely rugged with immense battery life. We also use the Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office desktop Software as a means of converting the collected point/shape/line data into a format that we can use with autoCAD. This set-up is diverse enough for pretty much any survey except the very small, where data entry becoms counter productive. lets hear what you guys use and what you think?
