  2. Hi! I am just inquiring as to how difficult it is to become a tree officer if you have no previous experience being a tree officer. At the moment im employed as a arborist however have been gaining qualifications to hopefully open the door to becoming a tree officer. by the time I start applying for tree officer jobs (preferably assistant tree officer at first). I will have a level 4 diploma in Arb from Merrist wood or Treelife. My Professional tree inspection. And 3 years as an arborist along with Arboricultural tickets. Would these qualifications allow with relative ease to find a job as a assistant tree officer or tree officer. Another quick question is I've found a lot of tree officer jobs are only for a few years. Does this mean after a few years you have to find another job at a different county?

  8. Hi all, I am due to leave the forces in a year and intend to qualify as a tree surgeon. I was a landscaper before I joined (15 long years ago), always keep myself in good shape, enjoy the outdoors, honking weather and all that guff... Basically, I intend to take my newly learned trade abroad, possibly France or Canada and have a few questions before I take the leap: Can you earn the money abroad? With the French and Canadians alike using wood as fuel more than here, surely everyone has a chainsaw in their shed? Qualifications wise, before I commit all my resettlement grant to say kingswood for example, are the courses here recognised abroad? While I'm looking at courses, can anyone reccomend the basics I need to be legally employable to gain experience, including climbing. I am after being a monkey with a saw to begin with, earning some money whist looking at education in conservation, forestry in the long run. Any help would be greatly appreciated or advice from anyone who has gone down the same route as I intend to do, thanks! Dan.

Small job, but I'm keen to practice filming as much video as possible, for the following reasons; It's good for website SEO The team like to share their exploits with family and friends It's a useful learning aid - spotting mistakes then discussing alternative techniques It can be fun, adding an extra dimension to the job Clients also like to see the videos Like most arbtalkers, I'm learning all the time, and hope to make steady improvements as I pick up tips along the way (in both video and work generally!)

  21. Hi my name is Nathan, I am a 21 year old apprentice arborist in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada on track to write my ISA certification by the end of summer 2015. Upon completion of my certification I have been strongly considering working abroad for a year in hopes of learning and experiencing new cultures and ecosystems. I consider myself to be physically fit and knowledgeable about Western Canadian Arboriculture and id really like to broaden my horizons in terms of both work and experience, my climbing skills however are more limited as my training has been mostly directed to ground and boom truck pruning although I am eager to greatly increase and establish myself as a climber. All this being said about myself personally I consider myself to be laid back and I have both a strong respect for both people and nature. I have heard Sweden is a great place to practice, however im open and interested in hearing any and all stories and opinions of countries and places to work and live in as well as places that pay higher than usual for professional tree work! Happy and Safe Cutting, -Nathan

  25. Hi all, Looking for some good advice in getting forestry/ground work in New Zealand starting around September if possible? Not fussy about where I'm based as I've been before to play rugby and it's all good! Currently work for a firewood firm at supervisor level of which I do all the felling myself so I'm very used to hard work. Looking into forwarding/harvester but training costs are astronomical in the UK! Got my CS30,31,32,38, UA1 and emergency first aid. Will hopefully have UA2.1 & 5, CS39, pruning and chipper tickets by September (money permitting!) Would it be best to sort a job first or just go out with a visa? Any work/visa advice no matter how big or small would be really useful. Cheers
