Thanks for the help - a chap from here’s sorted me out a flywheel so things looking up . sucessfully salvaged heating element but was fiddly- removing old grip took off top layer of tape element is sandwiched between so had to lay new tape down on top in order to lift it off in one hit but it came off ok .so it can be done but if I can’t find proper grip then it’s new handle time . L and s say husky says no so I’ll try a few others that make non original handles but not holding me breath .

Hi all , my beloved 371xpg is needing some repair- the inner magnetic ring that sits inside the rear of the flywheel has fallen to bits and I’m loathed to cough up for a new complete flywheel unit . It’s not shown on the parts diagrams -does anybody know if these are obtainable from the company that manufactures them for husqvarna or from any other place ? also the heated front handles bent so looking to salvage heating element and place on a spare handle I’ve got kicking about so am looking for advice in obtaining new handle grip from somewhere ,I gather its heat shrink tubing but where to source some that’s up to the job -grip color diameter wise . any help would be much appreciated cheers !

  4. Can someone please help me id this please it’s on a large oak that’s had a council haircut due to proximity to playing Feilds . Thinking there’s only a few yellow ones , and I don’t think it’s yellow jelly/ or chicken of the woods . Or yellow brain but it’s young and that’s where my problem sussing it lies . any help much appreciated cheers rooter
  5. Hi spud , I never clapped eyes on the first piston and cylinder, only have the piston and head from the second failure . It came to me partially stripped in a box with the other bits , as I received it from one of my old bosses as part payment for fixing his crusty 372s that had seized also. The second seize piston shows damage but not loads so and there was not any shrapnel in the crank case but walls of chamber had some nasty gouges in it, the exhaust did have some fine swarf in it like a mouses whisker in bits I’ll talk to Tom and find out who did the first fix . Perhaps I’ll cut the rod off too to see what’s left of the bearings to quantify what came out , but the cranks so floppy it feels like there’s nothing in there , making me think that your line of thinking is correct.

  7. Cheers ratty , I always assumed honing would have been a expensive lathe type kit job , so never really looked into it . Happy days , as it may mean I can get one of my beloved 056 supers wood hungry again. knowledge is power , many thanks !

Quite possibly could of been on its way out I’ll post a pic of the crank -when emptied the fuel in it looked like it had been stained only by the remnants on the last mix to occupy the fuel can , the bloke I got it off s a minimal maintainer to boot so perhaps many factors in play , it got so hot that when I got it the chainbrake /mech spring had bust out where the plastic around the retaining screws on the chainbrake cover had simply melted . I think possibly died of mix and what I call “smega-mortis “ - he used to use a lot of bio and mostly veg oil which turns /baked into some sort plastic evil that only swearing and a scalpel seem to shift often taking paint with it , perhaps he put it into be repaired in its smeggy state and the shop guys just fixed it up and waved it goodbye knowing that he’d be back for a new one cos it would boil itself anyway in that state .

Hi all - bit of advice please - this head came off a ms660 that had just been out the shop after blowing up once , only to die again instantly from crank bearing disintegration so head was brand new , I’ve cleaned the smudges out to find a single score running from top to transfer port , scratch can be felt with finger but it’s shallow and not down to the metal , seems the piston took most of the shrapnel to the top and bashed some into the top dome of the head (note the pock mark above score) will it be alright to reuse or is it junk ?
