  1. I should also add, since my original post, a member here has approached me to supply wood when he has it available. As for what I'm willing to pay, as I'm fairly new to this particular I don't know what the going rate is for green wood, but having been involved in running the family business for a number of years, I am capable of working out whether I can make money on a load. Thanks Chris
  2. Upon re-reading my OP it was quite vague ?. Currently we offer coal, logs and kindling delivery throughout Belfast etc. At the moment we buy nets of logs in but have been asked for bulk and barrow bags so we are looking to branch out and start splitting and drying our own. Currently only interested in hardwood. Regarding the species, we are wanting to get our hands on some apple, cherry and hickory to split into smaller chunks for smokers to provide some revenue during the summer months. For drying for firewood sycamore is more than adequate. Commercial use. Thanks for the reply ?
  3. Negative wired to the earth jumping point under the bonnet. Positive wired to the main wire coming into the fuse box under the bonnet. This is wired direct to the battery so saves trying to get a cable under the drivers seat. Your may have twin batteries in which case you could run the cables under the car to the battery in the boot if you wanted. We also wired a keyed isolator into the Positive cable so the winch is always off unless we need it. The clutch can be accessed by popping out the VW badge if you want to. The rhino winch has wireless remotes so I just reverse the rope out with the remote. Just means its a bit slower but if your stuck you ain't going anywhere anyway ?? We just welded a 6mm steel plate onto the crash bar to provide somewhere to bolt the winch plate to. Looks far better tucked into the bumper and plenty of room for it too.
  4. I have a 3.0 touareg tdi. Awesome car. Does everything I ask it to do. Had it for about 2 years or so now. Only thing I've done is a starter motor. Mechanic recommended engine out job same as the v10. I did it in the yard by taking drivers front wheel off and going in that way. Still a pain in the arse but doable. It has towed anything and everything with no issues. Towed a 4t forklift on a 900kg trailer (private road of course) with no issues. We have taken it off roading a few times and its great. 2007 model so has locking centre diff and proper high/ low gearbox. Anything post 2010 came with an "off road" mode only. Never driven one off road so can't comment on what they are like. But the pre 2010 ones are brilliant off road and will easily embarrass plenty of landys. At the same time, put in on a motorway for 10 hours straight and you wouldn't even think you had been driving when you get out at the other end. I never thought I would ever buy a touareg. Now that I have one, I'd buy another tomorrow without a second thought.
  5. We once had a hire van (refrigerated vans, lose most of the payload in the fridge and insulation) and it had an on board weigh sensor from these guys: Axle Weighing - OnBoard WWW.AXTEC.CO.UK Handy wee device I thought. Made sense given the amount of payload you lose in a fridge van. I appreciate the view ignorance is bliss but having been there and done that with the over weight thing, we don't bother anymore. Doesn't matter if we are sending 1 pallet or 5, if its going to put the van over weight we put in on the 7.5t DAF instead.
  6. Evening all, I am looking for a reliable source of green wood to split for firewood. I have contacted a few tree service companies local to me and only one got back to me, however they say they are quite limited to only having sycamore and I would like to get my hands on a few other species. I have put myself on the tip page but would like to try and build relationships with a few suppliers. Thanks Chris
