  1. How much are those each? Are they air dried?
  2. Ash sounded great as it's very hard once dry, but has a porous texture to the end grain. Lots of little holes. Pear wood is probably the best wood and may be easier to source
  3. Yeah it's either hornnbeam or beech or maple. You can also use sycamore but it's much softer.
  4. Making wood type for letterpress printers
  5. I'm after some hornbeam planks/beams. If anyone has any hornnbeam or can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. Based in South Wales (willing to travel when possible) and after planks at least two inch thick and as long/wide as possible.

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
