  1. I'd back up the recommendations for a Bedlington x Whippet (with a dash of Collie) - ours is a year old and loves life. Whether it's relaxing with us all in the kitchen or out with the ferrets, she's a fantastic addition to the family.

    Well here we kin go...🤬

Had a letter from the people over the hedge.

There was quite a big alder on top of a hedge growing up through the power lines that run above so I cut the tree clear of the lines after discussing it and getting the go ahead from the distribution company on Elf and safety grounds.

I did get them to sign it off and have the paperwork.

Once I'd cleared it from the 3phase there was just a monolith left so I decked it and firewooded it.

I've now had a solicitor letter from the neighbours saying I trespassed and did criminal damage to their tree FFS.

There is a fir hedge that screens them from the lines and the area so they can't even see it.

So I went and posted copy's of the utility authority for tree cutting through their letter box and waved at the door camera..

Luckily on the form no parameters were listed other than cut clear 😁.....

Idiots can suck on it and hopefully go away. Tree was an eye sore anyway and had to go.

I'm not even going to respond to the solicitors so time will tell soon enough.

I don't post very often but I must say you really do appear to be a complete and fantasist end. Almost every word you type stinks of spectacular bullshit. Maybe I'm wrong, but I bet I'm not.

  3. Hi,

I'm coming to the end of a contract and am looking for some tree survey work (preferably in the North of England but can travel elsewhere) I have 20 years experience in Arb & hold PTI qualification,  Level 3 Arb(HNC), Gold Card CSCS, SMSTS etc.

Many years experience in subsidence surveys, BS5837 and large scale hazard surveys (Highways and Local Authority) Familiar with most IT packages but AutoCAD is a little rusty.

100% reliable, have own transport, tablet etc. Happy to work 3 or 4 days a week if that suits.

Please feel free to pm me with any questions

    Cheers

I suggest do a few UK ones first for  practice if any are still happening with corvid.

& even if they aren't happening you could just run the courses.

Something like Offa's Dyke is similar distance.

    Or try sections of this

6 days | 380km | 17,400m - the legendary multi-stage, ultra running journey down the spine of Wales. From Conwy...

Distance is not a problem for me - however, the average daytime temperature is 50 degree celsius which may take a bit of getting used to.

I run standard distance marathons as that’s my thing and have got down to 2.35 but have always been drawn to try the MdS at some point in my life. I know how much time goes into normal marathon prep average 80 - 100+ miles a week so training for MdS must be next level! I have always fancied doing the Comrades marathon in SA so that will be the next big one I aim for when restrictions are lifted.

When I looked at MdS in the past there a few groups on Facebook that offer advice and share experiences. For training plans maybe look at somebody like Centurion Running who have a number of high level coaches on there books, they aren’t cheap but you’re getting years and years of knowledge and experience. Tom Evans the Red Bull long distance athlete is connected to Centurion and also offers training plans, he should know what he’s taking about as he came 3rd

Precision Hydration drinker Tom Evans came 3rd at the Marathon Des Sables ultra race. We asked him about his gear, hydration, nutrition and training for MDS.

Thanks for the reply Jay - the Comrades run looks great  - I've got my eye on the Everest marathon after the MdS but as you know the training takes up so much time (not to mention the cost) I'll have to put in the hard yards with the wife to get the nod for that one.....

Thanks for the tip about Tom Evans - I have read about him before - supreme athlete - I'm hoping to get in the to top 50% in the MdS but I'm getting closer to the big 50 by the day so have to pace myself !!

There are so many groups out there with so many people offering advice it's enough to make your head spin - I'm hoping to find someone relatively normal to talk about the practicalities of the planning, race etc but it's proving harder than you would think.....

    Thanks again

Steve, I am not gonna even pretend to be a runner but gotta admire you for doing it.

A friend of mine from back in London has been training for the last few years for that race.  Last 2 being cancelled so all that training for next to nothing.  He also raised a fair bit of money for charity by running the London marathon during lockdown around his garden.

Top fella.  I used to train at the same gym as him and his family.  I would get in touch if you can and he is a very helpful guy and bloody determined.

    All the best.

Cheers Rich - I'll have a look at that.

I was due to have run it March / April this year so can feel his pain regarding the "wasted" training miles.

  8. Hi,

I'm in the process of training for the 2022 Marathon Des Sables (150 mile self sufficiency footrace through the Sahara) - Any ultra runners on the forum or anyone completed the race previously ?

Would be good to talk training tactics, kit etc

    Cheers

  9. I bought a Bobcat T770 a couple of years ago and its been awesome - I have a Seppi Midi Forst mulcher and a hydraulic grapple - the machine can lift over a tonne no problem.

I often get involved in situations where the trees are felled and snedded up and we go in, extract the stems to the roadside or wherever and mulch the brash - job done.

Admittedly at 6 tonne its a bit of a lump to move around but in the right location its able to do a huge amount of work for a relatively small, compact machine.

I work right across the UK if anyone needs a hand :thumbup1:

  10. Hello,

I have a Bobcat T770 tracked loader with a hydraulic grapple bucket for hire - based in the North East but can travel - its spot on for moving large volumes of timber or brash. It has an Rated operating capacity of about 1.5t

Please pm or call 07710 542 146 if interested

    Cheers

  11. Hello all,

I've been working as a sub contractor in the arb sector for the last 10 years but most of it has been in the south of the country.

I've decided to return home to the north east and hope you might be able to help me with some contacts.

I have a Bobcat T770 with an FRC 150 mulching head, am well qualified and used to working for major contractors.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Steve
