Location: Based at both Crystal Palace (SE19) and Enfield (EN1) Salary: £18,170 to £22,886 plus £1,755 London Weighting Start date: ASAP Capel Manor are looking for a Practical Instructor and Resource Technician who will technically instruct students and demonstrate a wide range of arboriculture practical tasks, instructing to LANTRA/NPTC standards. The successful candidate will inspire students to become fully trained tree surgeons. Main Duties and Responsibilities: • Undertaking the assessment of students’ practical abilities according to criteria laid down by awarding bodies. Liaising with Arboricultural and Countryside Lecturers as to student progress • Provision of associated technical advice and liaison with members of the academic staff • Liaising with members of the teaching staff to co-ordinate demonstration sessions and ensure the smooth transition between classroom studies and practical sessions. • Assisting with the supervision of students allocated to projects and provision of technical assistance and advice as required • Responsible for ensuring that the health and safety of students is maintained whilst undertaking practical sessions, including upkeep of LOLER and PUWER records • Assisting the Course Managers/Lecturers in visiting and assessing students’ work on work placement and assessing the workplace offered to the student for work experience • Organising the provision of all equipment required for practical in Arboriculture and Countryside management • Maintain arboricultural equipment including ordering spare parts and drawing up list of costs of new equipment and/or spare parts required for the School • Ensure adequate security of machinery, tools and equipment at all times, including the safe return of all equipment to the store in a clean and satisfactory condition and reporting broken or non-functioning equipment in need of repair to the Head of School and other Practical Instructors • Assisting with the maintenance of trees and machinery within the College grounds • Establishing and maintaining a range of educational demonstrations and visual aid materials to service the School Attending open evenings, weekend events and other promotions as and when required The successful candidate must be willing and flexible to travel to other sites in London as and when required. Required Skills and Experience: • Experience of supporting arboriculture/countryside resources • A relevant arboriculture qualification to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent • NPTC Certificate of Competence CS 30, CS31, CS32, CS38 and CS39 (or working towards within a given time frame) • A current clean driving licence • Good communication skills with all levels of staff and students • Working successfully as a team member • Successful time management, including punctuality • An understanding and compliance with current legislation, including Diversity and Equality and Safeguarding • Commitment to inclusive and comprehensive educational provision What’s in it for you?
