  1. Matt. Of your on the quantocks, well west somerset area! You know as well as me there is a distinct lack of flat woodland, and the end of the day you need something which is effective, yet safe! That eBay dumper looks good, but I was thinking a 2.5 tonner so it could be trailered?
  2. Someone will correct me, but 65? The old stihl 361 was a great saw, I guess the modern equivalent is the 362!
  3. Always thought a tracked dumper with hiab would be a very useful bit of kit. Plus lower impact than a bike etc.
  4. Get a big saw. Spend 600-700 on a 365 or equivalent. That's how we started, two of us with one saw and a tractor splitter can do 15-20 cube in a day. That's what I'd go for!
  5. Second the Quantock, I use their PD6 a fair bit ands it a beast, Rockspike is well thought out compared to the Protech i run. They are top guys to deal with aswel!
  6. Anyone running/ hiring a tracked remote mulcher in the southwest? Similar to the Mcconnel Robopower etc
  7. They are good processors, but the faster you push the more in consistent the log becomes!
  8. I'd say it's more... A cube of green wood (solid) is around 600kg, therefore a ton is 1.6cube of solid wood. Then a cube of solid wood produces about 1.5 cube of logs. I'd reckon around 2.4 cube?
  9. Sorry about the lack of reply, been having a nightmare with our internet supplier! But thankyou for the replies! Much help. Cheers
  10. That's what needs to change, someone needs to promote softwood as a firewood, the heat output is higher than some 'hardwood' just the public need convincing! On a another note, wouldn't mind seeing a picture of this pine bath?
  11. So when it comes to drawing some takings from the firewood business. I can take these drawings into a personal account without paying vat on them? As I am VAT registered as a sole trader?
  12. Answer 1) Yup we are happy to VAT register 2) Depends what you call close, I am a fencing contractor and friend is a farmer. Thats what we figured, go LTD for the firewood and VAT register. I was wondering how that would work for me tho, as my fencing is a soletrader business, do i need to go LTD with the fencing side of things aswel?
  13. I am throwing this out there incase anyone is in the same boat and knows the answers! So I am VAT registered as a soletrader, my business is fencing. This year me and a friend have started a firewood business. He is part of a partnership, a farm, which is VAT registered. so basically we are both VAT registered for different business's, but now want to start another business/partnership between us. How do you handle Tax / Vat? anyone got the same? Thanks in advanced.
  14. Goatys about right, I'd say it wouldn't be any more than that, if you were local I'd go in at 4pm
  15. Post lengths? Rail lengths? Any stock wire? Get a tractor / digger to it? Where abouts are you?
  16. Depends upon the quality of work, of your tying off at both ends and center pulling looking at 300/400 meters a day for a couple of you. That's turning up sticking your materials out, doing the job properly and leaving a tidy site. Well that's what I would work on!
  17. I'm at the other end of the country to you bob! But of your after enough Ive got plenty of chestnut!
  18. To be honest if its straight and flat £5p/m is expensive. Labour should be 2 - 2.20 a meter depending on the ground / clearing old fence. Then materials similar again, possibly cheaper. If i was you i wouldnt be putting any UC4 / Softwood posts in the ground, they might come with a 15year guarantee, but thats normally offered by a different company that will just fold if they suddenly have a lot of compensation claims. Creosote isnt bad, just inconsistent, some batches the creosote has penetrated right to the core, while others only the first few mm. Id be going for Chestnut posts if i were you, and HT wire rather than C. The price difference is marginal in the long run and the HT wire makes a far better fence! Where abouts are you?
  19. Looking to get Some timber moved from West Sussex (GU280PN) to West Somerset (TA24 7BS) Needs to be a Artic with Crane. Anyone who can help please PM me! Thankyou in advance
  20. Porky, have you got some SC? where abouts are you?
  21. Any chance of getting this moved to general chat?
  22. The question is, what is it? I am after a new saw, as close as possible to the 361, any recommendations? Thanks in advance
  23. Xero is good, does everything, accounts etc, links it all in, you send an invoice when the payment turns up in your bank account it links it together.
  24. So whos going to put a figure on it... The going rate for a loose cube of well seasoned hard wood logs delivered? whos feeling brave?
  25. Just putting this out there now, but i will be looking for Winter cut fencing grade sweet chestnut throughout this coming winter. Willing to pay for transport, aslong as the quality is good! Also looking for hardwood on exmoor if anyone has any coming up. Thankyou
