  1. Personally I think prog rock was an evolutionary dead end, interesting but ultimately irrelevant, so no, you do not need ELP.
  2. Well the Arse have just equalised, so they’re doing their part. ps, Mark, thanks for the Soccer Guy Twitter thing, good account. I love the way he describes Messi as the Mexican Dempsey.
  3. And I’ll add also that loss and failure (which happens to everyone) and how you deal with that are other important lessons.
  4. I started supporting Spurs from the time of Chivers and Gilzean, don’t get me wrong, I’m no diehard, more of a sofa supporter, but always have a soft spot for my boyhood club. To see them get to the final after after nearly exiting this competition so many times is astonishing, a brilliant start to life in the new stadium. Hope it’s a good final and Kane is back fresh and ready, though Moura is a starter for sure. Without getting too philosophical about it both teams have shown the ethos of never giving up, giving your all no matter what and belief in oneself. That is what sport does, provides life lessons in hidden form.
  5. What extraordinary stuff over the last couple of days, Spurs (IMO) surpassed Liverpool’s incredible ‘remontada’ by scoring three second half goals against Ajax in Amsterdam. All English final, with the possibility of another one between Arsenal and Chelsea in the Europa League. Now I’m certain we will get loads of peeps going on about prima donnas etc. But for some brilliant drama and feel good moments (when they are sorely needed) football has lifted the spirits.
  6. I follow him on twitter and thought the photo was ill judged. I am sure he meant nothing racist by it, but as he says himself it’s brought the vampires to the party. He is persona non grata for a few months, hopefully he’ll be back soon, I’m a big fan of his radio show.
  7. Did not know that about yer man. Fair point about the op taking training.
  8. “Safety is my top priority” That ‘Human’ guy is an object lesson in why you shouldn’t just go for it.
  9. Good question Josh, here’s the answer..... .
  10. No, it’s rubbish, too big, concrete in big wounds, punky in places. Going to rot in the corner of a field.
  11. Large cedar dismantle and fell, client took more photos and vids, will put up later, this’ll do for now.
  12. Probably you’re being undercut, you’ll lose the clients forever and never regain the momentum you once had, the phone will never start ringing again and you’ll end up driving an Uber in Liverpool.
  13. I’m reminded of a young farming couple across the valley from me. They have a couple of plots of Douglas ( probably planted in the 70s) most of which have blown over or died years ago, a few have thrived and have reached 30 metres and a very decent girth, a while back they felled three of them, planked them up onsite and built another big barn to house their beef herd. Astonishingly quick turnaround, probably take oak 10 times longer to produce the same amount of wood. Love to hear what real forestry guys think.
  14. There are many saw mills around here, I don’t know any of them that use acacia for anything other than fence posts and firewood. Douglas is high value quick growing saw logs (at least it seems to get the saw mill guys excited when I offer it up to them)
  15. Stress control issues are rarely cheap or simple.
  16. I’m not arguing, the painting cuts thing is not a hill I’m willing to die on! But it is coming down next week! (Pictures will go up in the work pics thread) grab lorry man estimates 40 plus tonnes of wood, never mind the chips.
  17. Tbh, I just say that there’s no point using it cos it’ll be a pita painting cuts, I suspect a view shared by many.
  18. I like it, rhymes but stupid enough to appeal to me.
  19. Then it’s robinia, useful wood, good fencing, good firewood, seems to coppice readily, normally eschewed in favour of sweet chestnut here, thought of S.chestnut?
  20. Do you mean real acacia or robinia?
  21. It’s good but it has to rhyme with ‘much’ in the same way that ‘Hat’ rhymes with ‘flat’ in the original
  22. With Igor I sing “I like this little doggy, I like him very much” to the tune of “my old man’s a dustman” I haven’t worked out a second line yet, any suggestions?
