  1. I was actually referring to the star of Bethlehem appearing over Sussex and the wise men on ? making their way to Rudgwick ? But yeah, pushbiking on the canal is good as well!
  2. As my Dad informed me once. The legendary winter of ‘63 began in December ‘62 and continued till February ‘63. I was born in December ‘63, positively balmy by comparison. But I’m sure you remember it well Stubs.
  3. On the subject of mopeds for 16 year olds. whilst the FS1E was the most popular by far, Suzuki’s offering, the AP50 had 5 gears and was probably a bit faster in a straight line but blew up far too often, so was rarely seen (at least in my parish) The only genuine 60 mph 50cc moped was the Fantic GT (pictured) one guy at school had one, it was the subject of considerable envy.
  4. Mine was 74 I think, purple, drum brakes, fetch around 3k now! I wouldn’t have believed your brother in the 70s, no reason to change my opinion.
  5. Think I got 48. To get 60 you’d need to alter the gearing, otherwise it wouldn’t happen.
  6. Yeah we all heard about those guys! Often achieved down Bullshit Hill (a common enough place name all around the country)
  7. A guy I knew had a similar machine, there wasn’t a no stress.
  8. Well, Stihl relented and sent me a real one.. light, poky and very quiet!
  9. Could be a Great White shark or a killer whale. Depending on location.
  10. Reading your thread I thought that the service was a bit over the top tbh. Not commercially viable in the long term. As a rule I have found that politeness and a well constructed letter/email detailing... 1: The problem(s) 2: The way it has inconvenienced you, both financially and time wise. 2: What you feel they should do about it. ...usually comes up trumps in terms of results.
  11. There is a thread on good customer service actually.
  12. Dunno, how much are they new in the UK? Plus your warranty will have expired.
  13. Not just plant, it’s animals as well, if scientist A in Devon wants to contact scientist B in South Africa about why the lesser spotted beetle throttler which is called the mbongo mbingo in Swaziland is late arriving this year, he’s going to need a way of identifying the species.
  14. In fairness, my iPad automatically tries to make me spell certain words in the yankee style, I think I had to change to English English or something to thwart it.
  15. How’s your Italian made Multione working out for you?
  16. No, still owe a few quid on it, schliesing is good, but a bit big for back garden stuff. I have had to replace a hydraulic motor on it, which hurt a bit (€660) I keep them both.
  17. St8 broke down again today. Probably easier if I posted the days it didn’t.
  18. I remember a lesson at school where my metalwork teacher spent a long time explaining a long time explaining the different gauges. I thought then “bollocks to all this” and turned my head against engineering. I am sure I wasn’t alone in that, metric is the best and the rest of the world uses it. If JRM did anything but buy his asparagus in imperial (ie. Worked with his hands) he’d understand that.
  19. Me as well, but owning a (otherwise excellent) yankee stump grinder (Rayco) and realizing that none of my nuts/bolts will replace the ones that fall out because they still use a medieval system of measurement changed my mind.
  20. No, they’re better, make more sense.
  21. I don’t mind the bloke, seems smart and well informed. But the imperial measurement thing is fricking nuts, who honestly thinks that inches, feet and yards is better than mm, cm, and metres? Or that pounds and stones are better than kilograms?
