  1. Can anyone shed some light on this? What is a European Tree Worker certificate worth in the UK? Is there a possibility to change it in UK certificates?
  2. Not in UK at the moment. Netherlands near Belgium border.
  3. Time For chainsaw-shorts! 37-38 Celsius over here.
  4. Got terrafirma +2's so far nothing negative to mention about them.
  5. In my time we only had fisher price lawnmowers to 'work' with, but I mowed the lawn every day!😁
  6. That's why he probably found the new saw faster... Rubber chain.., never noticed it.
  7. Two-and-a-half years ago I bought a Stihl chainsaw for my nephew. I have to say he used it almost every day, but still: it should be in use for more than two-and-a-half years before breaking down. Off to the dealer tomorrow and hope he can fix it! Gave him one of my old saws for the time it takes to fix his or replace it. But he is seriously thinking of switching to Husqvarna...
  8. I would get some more logs in for this winter... Think there will be a higher demand for your firewood since someone is going out of business.
  9. Got a Rabaud logsplitter that I use a lot, but for the small jobs splitting a few logs I use a fiskars x27. Don't think you can get anything better for the money. Amazed me when I used it for the first time how easy it was to split logs with it when you compare it to other axes or mauls.
  10. Worth it. Made a trigger from an archery trigger -works superb.
  11. What a beautiful colour! And what a tree that must have been.

    Bent pines

Could be common pine shoot beetle (tomicus piniperda).

    trousers

Very nice trousers. I use them as my 'on the ground' trousers.
  14. That's I cannot tell you. I think it mainly depends on the sort of wood. We cut up a lot of trees for firewood, but we do sometimes have clients who want to make a table or something else out of their old tree in the garden. One of our clients needs long an wide slabs of poplar for restoring an old farm door/gate -slabs have to be 20" wide and at least 20' long, they pay about £75 per piece only for cutting. But just for cutting cheap timber it won't be economical.
  15. True, amazing and fun. A bit daft when you think about it... -just trying it out now, after using a chainsaw almost every day for the last 20 years!
  16. Sorry.., I just can't believe it's that easy and fun to do! Did some milling with the Alaskan today -first time, new home-made frame- and it worked superbly. Started with a smallish sweet chestnut log, worked a treat!

    trousers

I like the SIP an Pfanner trousers, but to be fair... If I wasn't using a chainsaw a lot I would go for the cheapest chainsawtrousers with class A or C. More expensive doesn't mean they are more safe, mostly they are just more comfortable.
  18. How's the acces through the neighbours garden? As you said he's willing to help you might have an eassier acces for a chipper through that garden...?
  19. It's great -only problem is they don't want to come out of the tree anymore...😁
  20. Did the same thing. Have to say this ones about 10 and it wasn't the first time he went up a tree. Knows how to climb a double rope and prussik...
  21. Don't think a beaver would fit in one of these -don't think they can climb that high either... 😂
  22. We have to take down some -nearly dead and hollow- american oak near the roadside. One problem is that there are a lot of bats roosting in them and we can't get the permission to fell them unless we place roosting boxes in the remaining trees. Soooow, a few minutes google-ing to find building plans for bat boxes and half a day making them with some local kids left us with enough boxes to put up in the trees. Fun little project.
  23. Took my chainsaws and kit on the Newcastle-IJmuiden ferry in the back of the trailer about ten days ago. No problem at all, the only thing that caught the eye of the border officer was a long insulation knife in the back of the trailer -friend took it because he did some insulationwork on my new house. Had to hand it in for the time we were on the ferry and could pick it up about 15 minutes before we got of the boat.
  24. As above: think it depends on your dealer. I use one dealer for all small equipment. If something breaks or gives a problem he will fix it while waiting or give us a loaner.
