Get them parked up close I suppose, so they could get a more legitimate look at the layout and a shorter escape to the vehicle.

Its to reduce suspicion. Anyone looking out their window from the direction of the camera would simply see someone visiting a neighbour. If that person happened to answer the door, all they have to ask is, is it them employing the tree surgeons as they need some work done. Obviously in this instance they know its not them, so they will be directed to the neighbour opposite, so getting nearer to the truck looking for an employee to discuss business wont arouse suspicion. These guys know what they are doing.

  2. We've had a set of these for a couple of years. Particularly impressed with battery life (using AP300 batt) and will run all day on privett and conifer hedges. They've been great for the less heavy duty work but not up to the rigours of what the petrol cutters can handle. Sadly though yesterday i encountered my first problem whilst cutting a lelandii hedge. Hit a thicker stem (thumb sized) and the cutters just stopped but the motor didn't. I.e. the motor came loose in the housing. Took it apart and there was no obvious break in the housing nor was it clear how the motor housing was actually supposed to be held in place other than a plastic toothed washer! I spun the motor back to it's original position put the housing back on but sadly it just happens again now whenever i hit anything a bit meaty. We did think when we first bought them that the motor housing did look a bit flimsy. Stihl might need to go back to the drawing board on how the motor is held in place on this one. Will keep you posted on any fixes
  3. Multiple saws stolen from my workshop in Headingley Leeds West Yorkshire inc Stihl 661, 461, 192, 181, and Husqvarna 545. They decided to leave me my 346XP that was in a box in bits so the only saw i have left is in pieces..... cheers chaps. They also got a load of Festool gear too Worth noting that there are very few 192's in the country. My one was imported from France a few years ago. Likewise with the 545. If anyone comes across either of these please drop me an email as this might help police potentially (big if).
  4. Would you be interested in about 40 tonnes of standing oak butts in hertfordshire?
  5. I started with a basic prussic loop about a year and a half ago but then bought myself a micro pulley and an eye to eye and use that in a valdotain hitch. Makes life a lot easier when on big climbs as you are not having to slide the prussic up with every up thrust. You can do two or three arm pulls and then pull the rope through one handed and higher up the rope is supposed to self tend - doesn't always work though Thinking about using a spiderjack now. Anyone had any experience? james - leedstreecare

  7. Evening folks. On offer are a variety of standing oak butts approx 35' tall. They vary in girth from 18" to about 4' and there are 12. They were big trees 80-90 feet. I took the crowns off these about a month ago and left them standing as client didn't have anywhere to put the wood. There is lots. Some are good enough for sawing some are firewood. Please let me know if you are interested. Chesham Road Herts HP27 Pics are on my album http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members/leeds-tree-care-albums-fernwood-oaks.html

  10. Its not in leeds it is down in hertfordshire! Strange i know. Near Berkhampstead. Its for a family friend. He owns both sides of the road garden one side - woodland the other. Can't drop them into the garden as tennis courts and maze are in the drop zone. So what would i be looking at cost wise for traffic management per day?
  11. I had a 20 foot container in mine which worked well until somebody stole it! If anyone sees a green/turquoise container with China Shipping written on it - it's mine. Can't leave anything in our woodland. Cut up a couple of chords of birch a couple of years ago - left it stacked in the woodland to dry about 40 yards from road, within two weeks - gone. Hope you have better luck than me. Still, people do leave me rubbish in return. Great fun, this owning woodland lark. Apologies for the rant - just a bit jealous that you even think about leaving tools/kit in an open shelter!
  12. cheers chaps - that answers that then. no shortcuts!
  13. Recently picked up some work felling approx 30 mature oaks by a quiet B road. Any one out there had any experience of crashing trees over a road. What are the requirements? Traffic lights, crash matts? Best to farm out to traffic management company or do it myself? If we do fell them over road we will need to move the butts (2' diameter) as quick as possible. Any advice - thinking of investing in a log arc from logrite as i could do with one for my own woods anyway. Appreciate your thoughts wise people. James
  14. Hi Duncan, I would say it's always worth comparing to the Husqvarna range as a thought. I used to use an old 260 and then a brand spanking 261CM at work but prefer my Husqvarna 357xp as a go to all rounder currently. Worth mentioning that if buying I've seen some fantastic second hand saws going but always view and try the saw out in person if you do go down that route. Particularly with ebay - I'd really avoid postage from unknown sellers and just go local! Good luck and enjoy your purchase. LeedsTreeCare | Sustainable Tree Management
  15. Have had a few recommendations for Woodmizer Silvertips now. Going to try them out soon - I'd give them a go to compare if the Rippers seem have a short life. LeedsTreeCare | Sustainable Tree Management
