  1. I can see no relief from the flys from the Spot On. My friend using the citronella tags thinks there is some relief but im not sure they would be effective enough for a working horse. I am using Stockholm Tar spray this week which is very effective. Clegs bad this week with the heat. I spray the horse 3-4 times a day which seems to give him peace. 2. I treated my horses with Spot-On for (cattle and sheep) yesterday following advice from my vet. The flys and clegs are a nightmare at the moment. A friend is also trying citronella tags which attach to the tack/harness. I'll keep posted on results. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. All of my horse logging work is carried out in co tyrone and parts of fermanagh which have there fair share of bog. I still use a 4wd tractor to extract with a winch and forwarding trailer where suits. However the reason why i moved into horse logging a few yrs ago was because the tractor wasn't able to travel in a thinning situation. Without a good brash mat a tractor struggles. The horse is able to move between the trees so can alter extraction routes if nessecery. I normally pull with the horse to where a tractor can reach without destroying the site. 4. Alot of my sites are wet boggy areas or steep bankings. I rarely use the arch as very few sites are suitable. I would love a clyde but dont think they are best suited. I have an ardenne mare but would still rate the cob above the ardenne. Great to see native breeds still going strong.
  5. He's only 14.2 but a strong wee bugger. Ideal in thinnings. Going very well. Only started in the woods in April. What you think of the Suffolk in the wood? A fellow logger uses one here in NI. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. This is my 4yr old Irish cob Dan. He wears a New England D Harness and works mainly in traces with the swingle tree. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Arbtalk mobile app
