  1. I did this during the winter. Had a 6inch old dosko to start with which was great. I sold it and bought a newish CS100 - much much harder work, it did not take much over 3/1.2 inchs. I was very busy to be honest but just did not think the 100 was up to the job - so its now sold and i am looking for a 6inch feed machine again.

YOU do need to go and look at EVERY job mind you to make sure the little cs100 can cope.

  2. I got well and truly caught on on one of these 'its only been there for 6 months' - lying bastards it had been there a hell of a lot longer and was a horrible job that muggings well and truly underquoted. The pile was well compressed and took three chipped loads when i thought max 1.1/2 loads. PLUS it was a HORRID when I got down a bit.

    Be careful :(

  3. £1950.They will build to the spec you want.Ive got mine so i can have just the bed or with one row of side panels and rear drop swing tail board. Then if chipping or doing say a garden clearance ill put the other two side panels on and the rear mesh barn doors and ladder rack. They also put the little side steps on wired up my tow bar fitted all new rear lights just don't know how they can do it for that when everyone else wanted £3500 to £5500.I know the frame is only sprayed with satin black but now the good weather is hear ill strip it back and give it a better coating with something. If it lasts four or five years ill be happy then ill take it back and get them to make me another one.I had mine made last August and its just starting to show some surface rust so with a little tart up be like new again.

Brilliant price looking at the photos :thumbup1:

  4. This is about a hour to hour halfs work chipping up just some tops of conifer, no big stuff, good access all stuff on front drive.

Message me if interested and i will give you the guys telephone number and you can either pop round and quote or do a phone quote. Nice bloke, just needs it doing some time next week to suit you.

  5. Not really. With a chipper the general rule is that the larger the chipping capacity of the machine the wider the throat/feed hopper etc. This makes a massive difference in the real world. A lot of machines will drag in whatever you can get to the rollers, but that isn't much use if the rollers are at the bottom of a narrow funnel preventing you forcing the big gnarly thorn etc to the bite point.

We use 1928 Greenmech chippers day in/day out - they are fantastic machines and will pull in more than an equivalent square feed 7.5 inch machine. When we use 6inch machines of various makes (including TW, Forst and Jensen) with or without letterbox openings the most noticeable difference is how small the hopper is in comparison.

Just because the machine will chip 7.5 inch/9 inch/15 inch etc doesn't mean that you will necessarily put that size log through it. Brash will be dealt with much more quickly and easily with a bigger machine.

The only negative that I can think of is man handling the chippers when disconnected from the van (eat your Weetabix and you will be fine). They are easier to reverse as you can actually see them, and in reality a 7.5 inch chipper is well within the towing capacity of any Arb truck.

    Go big, it's the future!

  6. I want to turn my blades for the first time this week and all these threads about the CS100 blade changing is filling me with TOTAL fear :( Another week running bluntish blades I reckon. Frightened if I try it may be out of action for weeks.

My old dosko was a piece of piss to change. Wish i still had it now as back up.

Any one want to buy a cs100 :)

  7. genuinely all that tackle & men & fuel experience etc for £900 a day :confused1: correct me if i am wrong but i always thought the more men & equipment on site = more £££...If you are right and that is what we are up against then i would be far better off doing piss tiny back garden jobs at £100 a throw.

And that is exactly what i do these days. :thumbup1: More money in dem little back gardens
