  1. Strapping is really not good at all, quote below from the article

    "Elbow braces are crap

In fact, they can cause harm. They reduce pain by [a] offsetting load that would otherwise pass through the offending tendon tissue and warming up the tissue faster, thereby reducing the pain when you start your session. Do you still have the problem? Of course you do. Braces are a big Band-Aid. Additionally, the neighboring tissue often becomes afflicted."

  2. To go with the 3pl crane I got a trailer built up that has all the bolsters and axle sliding along a central spine (my mate dan pat pending!). You can shove all the bolsters to the end and then put the hitch end and spine under the alpine so it all fits on a 14ft ifor. Obviously not as capable as a forwarding trailer with driven wheels, but not got stuck yet

  3. If you're splitting your time between woodland and arb jobs don't discount getting a 3pl crane, I end up using mine a lot more than I would if it was mounted on a trailer.

Also if you're new to silviculture/forestry practice in general, and not working for clients through an agent or forester, a copy of Harts and the FC blue book will help you out more than any particular kit will.

  4. Sorry to read about another hit.

Too late I know but getting the little battery easyalarm kit has been good to let me know if anyone is meddling, without them being warned.

Also upgraded wheel clamps to uk made lincmaster ones, which make other options look flimsy.

Don't work for either company, just good kit

  5. Front steer is still loads more manoueverable than a conventional compact tractor and still has the advantage of independent brakes - get a good snig behind an artic and it can't steer!

Second this, doubt you'd find yourself stuck with front steer and split brakes, also if you want to use the alpine at full speed then front steer is less twitchy.

Check gearbox specs if you want to power heavy implements too.

  6. Merry Christmas, Your client is asking for a type of abbreviated tariff that would give a decent amount of detail on total volumes, average tree size/volume etc. Unless he is an old forester that particularly wants that method, I'd steer him towards an inventory excercise that would be far cheaper and give a good estimate of standing volume. Where in the SE is the woodland? I suspect a local forestry consultant will be your best bet.

  7. See if you can get a go on a petzl rig or isc d4 based RAD system. Can use as 1:1 or 2:1 without any re-rigging. Not as fast on the way up as many systems but quick enough, and much less effort if on 2:1. Very smooth work positioning and slack tending, also easy to mid line attach with no risk of dropping the rig.
