  1. Hi guys, work is putting me through my European tree worker exam. I have just got hold of the book, but just wondering if there is anything else I need to know for the course. I'm hopeless with tree Id so wondering if there's any good ways to learn in that area, good websites or apps? Any info would be great. Thanks! Toby
  2. Thanks! I will be sending them an email soon!
  3. Has anyone watched the bbc horizons fat vs sugar programme? It's seriously changed my views on this diet! Anyone have the same reaction, I was quite shocked by the results!
  4. Hi mate, you have any advice for arborist work in Sweden. Been living here for 3 years now. Have temporary personal number etc. Originally I've been a fors paddling instructor and now back in uk doing my tree quals. Ideally looking for work north of Göteborg and close to outdoor activities. Any places you could suggest? Also there any good swedish arb forums? Thanks! Toby
  5. Great, im going in march. Any advice or recommendations? Good luck and have fun!
  6. Nice one! Curious to know where your doing them? I'm booked into Kingswood to do the same in march and can't bloody wait!
  7. Nice, where you raft guiding? If you got experience teaching kayaking and want some work http://www.kajaktiv.se need an extra instructor. It's my old job. Also there's a fun festival called daflo, reggae and paddling, few hours north of you! You paddling here much?
  8. Cheers jack, there any swedish forums similar to arbtalk or is it just a case of emailing every company out here? I've been in Sweden for 3 summers working as a kayak instructor in dalarna and doing my arb courses in March. Decided a career change would be fun. I think it would be easy to find self employed work but I'm trying to avoid that having experienced the tax system there and heard it's even worse owning your own business! You had any experience of self employment in Sweden? Not sure how common it is.
  9. Hey y'all! I'm based in Gothenburg in Sweden, wondering if anyone has any experience with employment out here or know where to look for work. I'm willing to relocate to anywhere in Sweden and Norway if the works there. Have swedish personal number so all set to go! Can speak basic swedish aswell. I will have my cs30/31,38,39 stump grinder, chipper, trailer and Hgv licence by then end of April. Anyone know of any good websites/forums etc to check out or any job opportunities. Cheers! Toby
  10. Cheers paul, will hold back on buying some basic gear! Will see how things go after doing the training etc. will be looking for work in Norway or Sweden but if that doesn't go as planned will get in contact as I might move back to uk if it doesn't go well here. Thanks again Toby
  11. I'm new to the forum and would like to say hi! My names Toby, I'm 24 and currently living in Sweden. I know there has been many posts like this before but would like some advice for a newbie like myself. I have recently decided to change career from a white water kayaking instructor to an arborist, the main reason being I felt I was loosing the love of paddling and need to do something new. I have always been interested in training as an arborist and finally plucked up the courage to pack the job in, get a loan, do some training and try and get a foot in the door. I'm not in it for money but more to have some fun and carry on working outdoors. As long as the work is more consistent than my old job I will be really happy! I have booked my c1+trailer licence and also the 'business start up' course at Kingswood training which will give me some basic tickets (cs30,31,38,39) stump grinder, wood chipper and a business studies cert. I hope this will help get my foot in the door to start work as a trainee. I'm pretty much out of money but whilst I'm taking the time to train I'm wondering if there's any other courses I should be considering? Is there any advise that any of you have for someone in my situation or think I should do differently? Also was thinking of investing in some basic gear, can't really afford it at this moment in time but is there anything I really must have if working for another company? Boots, gloves etc? Like I said before I've got no clue and would just like some hints, tips and advise! I know there's varying opinions on the fast track courses but I figured it would be best for me as I'm coming over from Sweden only for a short period and want to get into work ASAP! Would be particularly interested to hear from anyone living in Sweden or Norway to let me know their experiences over here. Cheers again and look forward to what you have to say! Toby
