I left some empty log nets outdoors, the UV from the sun made them fall apart... This was over a summer. There will of course be less UV in the winter, but I would try and keep as much light off them as possible just in case. My vented log bags have not suffered from UV outside. I guess the vented bags will let some UV through. The other thing to watch out for is shrinkage. A log net filled with unseasoned logs might not look completely full once the logs have seasoned and shrunk a bit.
It might be worth asking your log net supplier if the log nets can cope with UV and if so for how long. Some products have UV stabilisers built in to protect against UV but this normally makes them a bit more expensive.

For double glazing, just say that you live in a cave

Awesome video Alex, one heck of a ride, were you one of the kayakers ?

Hardware stores sometimes have them (for smaller quantities), since quite a few of their things are often delivered on one way pallets. I guess it just depends how many you need and how quickly you need them.

Here you go, from Bag Supplies, great bags. I have been using them for a while

Congratulations Sean on another major step forward, starting to get your freedom back, I am full of admiration for your +ve attitude and you are areal inspiration.

Reminds me of the Bob Hope joke, he goes to the checkin desk with 3 bags and is asked where he is going to which he replies London and the he then asks that bag 1 goes to Paris, bag 2 goes to Melbourne and bag 3 goes to Dublin. The checking lass replies "we can't do that" to which he replies "why not ? You did it last time and I didn't even ask"

A few arbtalkers have this one, me included the Handy Pro 7 ton vertical
Here is a video
It is aimed at domestic rather than commercial users and does a good job given the price.
I had a 5 ton horizontal first, but I find the vertical easier to use especially on big rings.
I bought mine from Riko http://www.alpinetractors.com/product.asp?prodsect=72&pdt=292 since they provide good backup and can obtain all of the spares (I have need neither). This model has been selling for several years now.
For sure it is not as fast as a tractor splitter and probably wouldn't last for 10,000 cubic metres but for your budget it is probably one of the best value machines out there and for and mine has been running fine for quite a while now.
Bikewoo might be along soon since he bought one as well.

I guess you just use different sized hammers for different diameter shafts, very scientific

I used the proper T pieces for the blue pipe, think I got them from eBay. Great because it folds flat.
Great idea, I like that, nice design and easy to pack away, thanks for posting, on my To Make list now

Hi Rachel when crunching the numbers it would be worth taking into account the cost of a replacement battery. The battery will only last a certain number of charge/discharge cycles and they are not cheap. Batteries also tend to lose capacity as they age i.e. the run time on a full charge is likely to decrease as the battery ages whereas a petrol saw should have the same run time per tank full. I don't know how relevant these points are to you but perhaps worth considering. I guess another point to consider is that with an electric saw you could use that inside a building and I would assume that the electric saw would be quieter so more scope to use in more populated areas without annoying those nearby.

Glad to hear that jon, a nice cheap fix

And when pestered about a conservatory, kept them on the phone asking for lots of details for half an hour and then when asked what his address was for the site visit said "top flat..", "what you don't do conservatories for top flats ?"

Years ago I asked Kenlowe fans if they would recommend their biggest fan that would fit a 300TDI for heavy towing in hot weather and they said no... They said that the standard fan fitted to the LandRover would provide more cooling and this would be even more important with an oversized intercooler which would preheat the air before it reached the radiator. This was about 10 years ago so would be worth checking again. The standard setup is oversized for UK weather since they were designed to cope with hotter climates. As twistedhicap says it is probably something wrong with the existing cooling system components and hence an electric fan is unlikely to be the solution.

Rob D on here for the rivets, I have had excellent service from him

Hi Python, some good news and some not so good news...
The good news is that by the miracles of our speedy connected digital world, I can now upload a picture of the Metabo parts.
The not so good news is that it looks like quite a different design.
At least you can now rule this out and hopefully someone else might have something. For sure it was worth a try

OK I will ask him and take it from there...

I had a Metabo 5 ton horizontal electric log splitter which died a while back and I gave the bits to an engineering friend (I guess he still has the bits). What type of log splitter is the part from ? If it sounds like a similar size, then I will see if he still has the part and can send you a photo/measurements if that is the case. If it looks like it will do the job, I will post it to you and you can buy me a beer sometime

Happy birthday, great presents, I bet the 560xp will be fun

How about counting the actual number of drive links and comparing that to the number it should be for the given bar length ? With a chain splitter + riveter it would be possible to salvage chains with too many links the chain i.e. remove a link. To have complete control over the chain lengths, you could go the whole hog and splash out on a roll of chain + splitter + riveter. I have seen 25ft rolls as well as the more standard 100ft rolls. There are often good deals at arb shows on this sort of stuff.
