  1. I broke my leg back in March pretty bad. Didn't have cover in place and it ruined my year and potentially longer. Just started to get back to a bit of work after 6months out and just had more surgery for screws to come out, so another week out at least. Next year the main metal rod will be out and that's another month or so off, not going to be a good earning year so I reckon £30-40 a month is worth it, I'm going to be down at least £10,000 due to this. It's easy to say it won't happen to you, I pride myself on being a safe worker but this was just one of those unforeseen accidents, take it from me, it's worth it...
  2. Thanks for reply, if any weekdays pop up my end, I'll drop you a PM and see if you are about
  3. Hi chaps. Currently living in Central Bedfordshire working self employed as a groundy/climber but looking to get myself a milling rig this year. I have no idea where to start with which mill/saw and although the info in this thread has been useful, nothing beats practical experience so I was hoping to find someone who might be operating close to me (Beds/Herts/Bucks?) who I could offer my services to help out if you are doing any milling in return for seeing milling process and any info or experience you could share about saws and mills. Weekends are really the only time as I've got a lot booked in the weeks with a local firm. Thanks in advance
  4. Thank you for the useful comments. Sorry i cant guestimate height properly yet... Will use the helpful info to see if i can assist the client make a better informed decision on what happens with their tree
  5. im not trying to balg the job or anything like that, just more concerned that there might be a potential failure possible as these people have a small family. there is some dieback in the crown, oozing at about 20ft. The base has had some concrete or something on it so compaction is probably an issue? The base doesnt have shigos curves on it, more bottle shaped.
  6. tree is in a large garden, approx 50ft from the house and 30ft from a large shed/workshop. Is the best process to get a tree officer to come and have a look to gauge it?
  7. does this tree need to come down ASAP then? Is this a developed stage of the fungi or is it an early sign? Thanks
  8. its on a very large beech tree by the way. 100ft+
  9. Hi there. Pretty new to this game, just been through my tickets and doing some ground work and a bit of climbing. been asked to look at a tree for some one i know, found this at the base. Been trying to ID it online, Is this Kretzschmaria deusta? I do hope not as have heard pretty horrible stories about it. thanks
