  1. i have been keeping my fire going for the last 3 months on free offcuts from b&q

the best stuff is chipboard posts things they use to deliver sheet wood instead of pallets, easy to snap to length required, burns hot and hardley any ash and free, mdf is also good in open fire no sparks,

You been raiding their bins then..

  2. Morning All!

Normally I would say just chop it down and get rid of conifer (or at least that is what Ive been told.)

But... In this instance, I renovating a property and got over 30 sizable conifers, I'm in process of stripping branches and have a nice bonfire. However are the stumps worth cutting down, splitting and seasoning or just get rid?

Are the seasoning times the same as I always thought there was alot of sap in a conifer.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I purchased the honey bros hitchclimber kit about 4 years ago with the spliced OP, then when it wore out I just used lengths of cord with fisherman knots, it made no difference to the functionality of the HC. It's only bulky when using a rope wrench tether with two tails.

Got a pic? Just so I can confirm we're on the same wave...

  4. Rather than a loop, you would tie the knot each end of the rope directly to the crab. Ie a fisherman's in place of the eye splice, does that make as much sense in words as it does it my mind?!

Yeah I have tried it with termination knots but its all a bit messy I feel... Most likely just OCD kicking in. Ha!

  5. Morning All,

I understand I'm opening myself to a little abuse here but hey ho! :blushing:

I'm looking at getting a chainsaw to take apart and learn to basics behind them, unless I get a bargain which is in great condition

But which machines are the most robust that people recommend still to date. I know my GFs father has a Stihl 024 and its been and still is fantastic.

I do like the Stihl brand so think I will stick to that. Also a model which parts are still easily avalible at reasonable prices.

    Anyone got any recommendations?

  6. Personally, I find working on saws bliss as you can get them on a bench and work on them with your back straight!

I would have to agree with working position, I've slouched too much in my life already and back aches sometimes due to that.

Well think I'm going to just mess around with one on a bench. Practise makes perfect, everyone has to start/learn somewhere. :-)
