  1. I've got one of these: Titan TTB355CHN 40.5cm 2000W Electric Chainsaw 230V | Electric | Screwfix.com They have a good reputation / good reviews, and it's done fine for me so far - surprisingly quick and powerful. (A few uses to chop up logs). I only paid £49.99 for mine - they had an offer on and I couldn't resist - but now it's still only £75. Only 1 bolt holding the bar to the body though, could be a weak point in future?
  2. I may never go in the woods again! "If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise..."!
  3. Completely unrelated, but the title made me wonder if there's a forum for prostitutes...
  4. Thanks chaps, made me chuckle!
  5. A young man called Chris from London wanted to buy a Christmas present for his new girlfriend. They hadn't been seeing each other for very long and she lived in Scotland. Chris consulted with his sister and decided, after careful consideration, that a pair of good quality gloves would strike the right note... not too romantic and not too personal. Off he went with his sister to Harrods and they selected a dainty pair of fur lined quality leather gloves. His sister bought a pair of sexy knickers for herself at the same time. Harrods had a free gift wrap offer but the assistant mixed up the two items, the sister got the gloves and Chris unknowingly got the knickers. Good old Chris sent off his gift wrapped present in a parcel with the following letter: Dear Maggie, I chose these because I've noticed that you are not wearing any when we go out in the evenings. If it had not been for my sister I would have chosen the long ones with buttons, but she wears shorter ones (which are easier to remove). These are a very delicate shade, but the lady I bought them from showed me the pair she had been wearing for the past three weeks and I hardly noticed any marks. I had her try yours on for me and she looked really smart in them even though they were a little bit tight on her. She also said that they rub against her ring which helps keep it clean. In fact she hasn't needed to wash it since she began wearing them. I wish I was there to put them on for you the first time, as no doubt many other hands will touch them before I have a chance to see you again. When you take them off remember to blow into them a little bit because they will be naturally a little damp from wearing. Just imagine how many times my lips will kiss them during the coming year. I hope you will wear them for me on our next date. All my love, Chris P.S. My mum tells me that the latest style is to wear them folded down with a little bit of fur showing.
  6. Are you going to oil it or anything? Or leave it plain?
  7. I can have a look when I'm at home. It's mainly long thin pieces, thickest about 6 inches. What sort of size and shape would be useful to you? It's also heavy stuff, so would probably be awkward and expensive to post...
  8. Going through some old photos, and I came across these. They were taken last year in Bergerac, in the grounds of Notre Dame Cathedral. There is a large tree there, I think a lime tree, though can't remember for sure now. It has been there for some 800 years, and seen a lot of life. So after dark, the cathedral projects light shows onto the tree of things that have happened in its lifetime. Rather pretty, and an unusual use of a tree, I thought. There was also a lot of fire in the tree's history -two world wars, and various lesser conflicts. Anyway, here are a few photos.
  9. Ahh, that makes sense! Thank yous. Yes, there are some decent sized bits of wood, and the price (free) was right.
  10. Hi all I picked this up for firewood last night. The owner said it was an "Alagnis", but a bit of googling doesn't find anything even similar. It was a multi stemmed tree / bush, about 4m tall and similarly wide (I guess - I only saw it chopped down). It was spiky, and growing in a back garden if that makes any difference! Any thoughts? Thank you.
  11. Beautiful bench. Love the solid style. How long did that take?
  12. Treefest at Westonbirt is a good one (August I think), and not too far from you.
  13. Good to see, thanks. That's one hell of a bandsaw!
  14. I do it in a very basic way. Two big water butts off the shed roof, and a couple of buckets off the greenhouse. Did consider hooking it up to the house, but that's a fair bit more work and money and regulations. Plus the amount I get is about right to water the garden and top up the pond every so often. More water storage would be good (lots wasted in the wet spells, and not enough for the long dry spells really), but that's a project for another house I think. Did look at a house that had no mains water at all, but a 5000 litre rainwater collection tank!
  15. Shiny, looks good. I'm also jealous of your smallholding!
  16. As I recollect, plum trees (prunus sp) shouldn't be pruned in winter due to silver leaf disease?
  17. Town green status is worth a go. It saved a patch of land near me from a massive and unsuitable development when many other avenues had failed.
  18. I like Collins complete guide to British trees. Don't have many books to compare it to though to be fair!
  19. Nice stove. Did you buy that, or make it yourself? A wood fired sauna is on my list to build one day...
  20. Hmm. Potentially interesting - please let us know how it goes? Do you have to buy pellets from them, or can you use any (RHI certified) supplier? Just wondering if they're going to trap you and increase the charges somehow...
  21. Seems too good to be true! What's the catch? Does the installer take most of the RHI payments or something?
  22. Where are you based, homegrown?
