    Most likely fuel residue left behind as last fuel droplets evaporated out of the recesses and crevaces of the carb. Alternatively, it could be the rubber parts inside the carb have just got to the point they need a refresh.
    Worth winding the low speed screw all the way in (gently) and back out to the same point as a quick and dirty test to see if it improves plus you get to know how far off std settings you are.
    If it runs ok at speed give it a tentative run, might clear cobwebs out. But be wary of fuelling issues at high speed for fear of seizing it if fueling is wrong.
     
    How fresh was the fuel before it went in the can?

    Thanks , Managed to get a spare half hour tonight and put the carb adjustment screws back to initial settings ie 1 turn anticlockwise and tweaked the L screw to a nice idle and smooth pickup.

    will  reset the H screw with a tacho tomorrow.

  3. I have worked as a plant operator for the last 25 years and am now at the point where I have had enough.

    I have built up a huge amount of kit over the years and I am now thinking of setting up as a part time sole trader doing landscape/garden maintenance work, hedge laying ,fencing etc all stuff I have done on the side for years.

     

    Question is how do I set up a business part time at first maybe taking a bigger leap as time goes on?

  4. I have a 1600 tirfor and have used it for all sorts of tasks, very versatile.

    For 80 trees as has been said it would be far too slow. I used to have a pto winch on a landrover and that did a number of tree pulling out jobs no problem. With it being gearbox driven you could run it all day if you had the fuel (V8!!!!!).

    If I still had it then I reckon with a decent tree behind for an anchor and a few snatch blocks I could have done at least most of what you need in one day but unfortunately I don't still have it.

    Would it be worth contacting your local landrover club (or similar) to see if there was a member with a pto or hydraulic (electric is not up to this job) winch willing to help out for a day?

     

    I have pulled out quite a few smallish stumps over the years using my land rover capstan with a ground anchor and snatch blocks,the trees need to be cut off at around 4-5 ft to provide leverage, just cut roots with a mattock if necessary. whereabouts in s.wales are you? :001_smile:

    Bought myself a new L200 club cab pickup last year,problem is it has not got anywhere to secure loads.

    Has anyone got any suggestions as to the best type of hooks/rail I can fit.

    I have got an over rail bed liner fitted and an ifor Williams canopy on most of the time.

  6. If you do manage to construct a ROPS,take your tractor to the top of a steep slope and let it run away by itself without anybody on it.Hopefully it will roll over a few times and the rops and its mountings will survive intact.

    These things are professionally designed and approved for a reason!

     

    Also don't forget that you need a seatbelt for use with a ROPS.

  7. The 1500 used to ride well on the road ,not sure how fast but the tyres used to hum with the extra gear!

    I never really used the machine for proper tractor work mainly transport duties. The reverse drive would be good on a mulcher I would imagine.

    The cab only had one door and you had to be mindful of this in tight spaces.:001_smile:

  8. A plant hire company I worked for in 1995/6 had an MB1500.

    It was B reg iirc so around 1985 vintage ,we used to use it with a 3 axle low loader trailer for moving excavators around locally , used to pull a 20ton machine around easily.

     

    We also used a 15 ton dump trailer as well , I remember that there was some problem with the gearbox and this was removed and sent to Mercedes for repair . When it was refitted I found that it had gained an extra gear, apparently they all had this high speed top gear but it was blanked off unless specified by the original purchaser , this turned it into a flying machine with air brakes thank goodness!

     

    I am not sure if they all had reverse drive capability but this one had the seat and steering wheel with dash etc on a turntable affair that could be turned around in opposite directions,leaving the gear levers where they were. All in All a good tractor but very cumbersome and primitive by todays standards.:001_smile:

  9. I think you must have got a wrongun on the phone, some of them are clueless. I have done a few over the years and they have been free to register and tax, it was all made easy when they had dvla offices dotted about and a person sat in front of you that knew his stuff. Anyway they have all been shut so you need tick box V55/5 and v355/5 ( I think) in here.............. https://forms.dft.gov.uk/order-dvla-forms/

  10. Its simple to register tractors and machinery, its not the same can of worms that apply to cars. All you need is proof of purchase, proof of year of manufacture if you want age related plates , go with a q if you cant, insurance , the relevant dvla form and thats it.

    When I enquired with dvla last year about registering my Kubota,they were insistent on date of manufacture, import paperwork,was vat or import duty paid?. CE certificate required, none of which I could answer. I think it was form v62 and around £55 to register if I could supply all the details

     

    I decided not to bother in the end,the tractor only does around 9mph and I did think about the safety aspect as well.

    iirc the OP got his tractor from the same dealer as me so I will see how he gets on.:thumbup:

  11. Kubota take the same stance over grey imports, even legal action against importers in the USA.

    your tractor is no different in construction to models destined for export outside japan but is probably not equipped with rops or start in gear safety system, perfectly safe to use with care and common sense though.

     

    my own dangerous, nasty grey import little Kubota 5001 is a great little tractor and known outside japan as a B5100 so I just obtained manuals online for this model.

  13. Nothing wrong with yanmar tractors as good as Kubota for less money.

    I bought a small Kubota from your seller a couple of years ago fully serviced,it even had black oil and dirty fuel filter included! but it did have a new battery fitted.
