  1. What size steel tubing is good for building a body out of? I am thinking or using 40x40x2mm mild steel S325. Would this be ok?
  2. It really bugs me when I'm working for someone else and they expect me do to what I'm being paid to do rather than sitting around drinking tea whilst updating my Instagram and facebook. I mean, when else am I going to do this? I love a good old "hufffffff" too
  3. Clearly their Christmas budget needed topping up and helped themselves to the poor guys hard earned money. Absolutely pathetic! Hopefully karma fights back!
  4. Aluminium Composite: Dibond & Alupanel | Bay Plastics Ltd These Aluminium Composite Panels seem like a good material to use, just need to double layer it so the inside can get dented but leave the outside looking nice an fresh.
  5. Nothing comes up on the Arbtalk search for GRP. Just trying to find out which is going to suit me best. Sticking with alloy planks and see if I can source some more to make it higher, get a luton and build with that grp stuff. Or maybe make a steel frame work and then use a alloy/plastic composite. All depends which is going to be strong yet light weight. The alloy planks that ive got just seem very heavy.
  6. Thinking of redesigning my chip box. Currently have the alloy plank on there but they only go up about 800mm (4sections). Now I'm wondering about using GRP sheets which come on Luton vans as you can pick up an old body in good condition for an ok price. Would this stuff be strong enough for use in tree work? How light/heavy is it in terms of weight? When I removed the sides of the alloy planks they seemed very heavy in my mind. Ross. * I've tried searching about GRP but cant find anything. Search button wont accept "grp" as its too short.
  7. They need to just have an open space where people come and dump hard-core and soil (in separate bays), then other people can come along and take what they need for their projects at homes. Oh hang on, HSE would have a field day with that! Also, no money for the council too. What a useless country we have!
  8. Just has this rattling around in my 201t last couple of days. I'm guessing its the heat plate to reflect the heat from the exhaust off the plastic. Screws seemed to have gone unless it was just glued on. Is it important or just leave it off?
  9. Twin rear wheels means its also 4wheel drive.......
  10. European trawlers, although I think now it will be UK trawlers shortly with more relaxed quotas.......
  11. Big thank your to Skyland Equipment for sorting out my boots nice and swiftly. So easy to sort out this unfortunate problem for what is a very nice boot
  12. Hardly any in the channel. Skippers are saying its because there are massive commercial trawlers around scooping them all up for their oil for use for something. Not good for the other fishes either.
  13. Mine have done this too on both boots. Had them roughly 6 months and they did this after about 4. Might enquire with the company if there was a bad batch. Other than this problem they are super comfy and nice to wear.
  14. Wolfie do you know the diameter of the cable? Might just buy a few hundred meters for every other job.....
  15. Does anybody know where I can buy a length of round wire spiral? Thinking internal diameter of 3-4mm. Cant find anywhere on the internet.
  16. Anyone know where I can get a length of round spiral wire? Thinking of getting a larger diameter spiral so I can put in a thicker length of cable. Hopefuly then it wont snap so easily....... Cant find anybody that sells them on the internet.
  17. A customers Privet hedge has started dying in places. Hedge has been in about 3years. But some of the trees are dying off within the hedge. Pulled one of the roots out to have a look. The roots seem very soft like wet tissue paper. The gardener said he could see some yellowy/orangey type stuff on them but I cant see anything like that. Any ideas? The rest of the hedge is in full leaf so strange that a few have died.
  18. Yes anvil has been adjusted many times to get it working but never does because the blades have obviously been done wrong constantly.
  19. Looking for advice on my recent problems with having my Greenmech CS100 blades being ground at wrong angles. I wont name and shame the company unless I need to. Had 2 sets re-ground as both had got dull, came back put them on and the chipping was horrendous. Phoned said company and they had it on their systems as the wrong degrees. Sent them back and they did them to the correct degrees free of charge (obviously)(I also put the angles from the Greenmech booklet). Put them on and was better but still not pulling it through as these little machines are meant too. The drive belts were a little slack and at full adjustment so bought a new set hoping the cassette was slipping thus not dragging in the branches. These did nothing to help. Realised one of the blades had a crack through it so put the other spare set on and ordered a new said from the same company. When they arrived I realised that the measurements between the new ones an the sharpened ones where different. They had ground the flat underside over a whopping 8mm rather than the required 4mm. My question is: Do I phone the company and ask for a full refund for the original grinding of both sets? Or ask for something more? Over this major "chicken up" of grinding, I have lost probably about 100hrs worth of chipping metal between the 2 sets of blades with them being ground more than they should be! The spare set will need to be ground again. I think in my mind I should be entitled to a set given free of charge for all this messing around. What should have had one grind will have in the end had 3! I look forward to hearing some of your reply's. Ross.
  20. Any owners of the Predator 360SW or in fact any other grinders with the same brake problems come up with a better system? Getting pretty bored of it being terrible at holding the wheels. Make the cable tight and it just snaps. I was thinking of putting a thicker cable on but need to have a bigger diameter black sheath thing but cant find anything suitable. Any help will be much appreciated Ross.
  21. Holes just mean less to dump as they fall out en route - thus saving money on dumping fees
  22. The assessment fees were all included when I did it. Total for everything was about £1700. Do you know how much the extra fees on top are now?
  23. Well yeah we did have the better group. Think its like 6 years or maybe even 7!
  24. I did this course about 6years ago. Had no experience using chainsaws or climbing trees with ropes. They teach you from the beginning so to speak, so don't need any experience with anything. Would be good if you are a quick learner and very keen. Tutors when I was there were very good and give you extra help if needed. Teaches you what you need to pass the tests, learn everything else on the job. Is a good course, try and get on the summer one, then its nice and warm and dry for leaning to climb.
  25. Does the discharge chute fold down for storage? Looks as though its hinged on the front but cant really tell from any photos of them.
