  1. This one has me 'stumped' Thanking you in advance.
  2. I was about to suggest frost damage too. A lot of it about this year.
  3. Thanks David. - Nice to know that I am at least close! - I just thought that these were a particularly nice example. 9 fruiting bodies all in close proximity, most at about 30cm across. The crown is also in pretty poor order, but the target area is low hazard (though the Environment Agency might not agree), its over a river.
  4. Highly recommended. 5. Just a quick reply and probably too obvious, but is it not Bird Cherry?
  6. My understanding; Unless the hedge is TPOd or you live in a conservation order he can pretty much put his footings right up to the boundary, and damn the consequences to your hedge. He will however have had to apply for planning permission, and you can object at that stage, look on the planning portal for your council. If it were me, I think I would be more concerned with how deep he is excavating and possible consequences of this. - Either way all the information that you need is available on line and you can comment.
  7. 'Tree Alert' have recently updated their web access. Report any sightings, together with any evidence (pics etc) here; https://treealert.forestry.gov.uk/
  8. Might a root have been severed, compacted, change in water table etc?
  9. I know that a separate population (perhaps sub species) was discovered last year on the west coast of Portugal, whose life cycle occurs some months earlier than the main population. - The concern being that if, say climate change, allows the two populations to meet up (which they haven't done yet), then they might form a 'super species' with an extended life cycle, so increasing their potential range. I can find the details of the lady at the University of Lisbon who is studying this if you wish.
  10. For anybody on face book this is a useful 'like'. https://www.facebook.com/farmwatcher?fref=ts
  11. Totally agree, would also alleviate flood risk.
  12. Just seen these via the Ancient Trees Forum. Cracking work David. Well Done.
  13. Unless i'm misreading this, the tree owner is selling this once you have felled it? - so the price that they agree with whoever is their worry, not yours? .. Quote for felling and processing to the agreed requirement surely?
  14. I thought he was referring to a south London football club !!
  15. Hornbeam makes a lovey hedge and likes 'heavy' soils.
  16. Maybe this should be in the employment forum. Looking for some extra work? 'Vikings' need 8,000 extras for filming in Ireland - Newstalk
  17. Are you sure that this is not remnants left by some passing reveller late last night David?
  18. This is useful. .. Pre-treatment duration summary - Grow a tree with TCV
  19. You might have to come 'over the tops', but these are worth a visit. Yorkshire Arboretum :: Castle Howard North Yorkshire Thorp Perrow Arboretum - Falcons and Mammals
  20. Was aware of this the other day, and surprised to see so little coverage of it . - His books have been a great inspiration to me. Just about to start his new one on Ash. - Rest in Peace, and thank you for the education.
  21. If, as part of your woodland management plan, you intend to open the canopy by markedly increasing the amount of standing deadwood, by coronet pruning and ring barking a percentage of trees (in the interest of bio-diversity);- do you still need a felling licence, as you are removing the trees as living organisms- or not, as you are not actually felling or removing anything from site . ? Thanks in advance.
  22. Brilliant - Thank you. - Ill give them a bell.
