Hi again, As a rough and ready test I tried it tonight with a small aping stove of about 1.8kw and in theory it works. I thi k with a 9kw as per previous post and when its not starting at 3 degrees 🥶, it could work well. After aprox 5 minutes uses was upto about 110 degrees C. Thanks

Thanks all, for the input. I think the flu option is definitely out due to the advice on the building regs. The door pics from 'agg 221' give me an idea of how the door would look whilst I keep searching. I think I will see how well it warms with a gas burner and if it is successful will order a higher output burner like the link posted by 'Stere' Much appreciated

I dont see why not, our log burner is quite large at 7kw and happily heats the entire upstairs of our house with vaulted ceilings. Also cheaper than and flu Install. Thanks

Hmm, interesting, do you have a picture? My temporary door is just a guess at what it would have looked like.

Like you say the cooking is done by the residual heat. Do you think a portable camping type stove would produce enough heat output. This way there are no alterations at all! If it works, whilst not the same as a 'real' fire is a great idea!! Thanks

Hi all, I'm not really sure where to post this question so the General forum seems logical. I live in a house that has a bread oven in great internal condition in a sumner room attached to the house in the garden. It was missing its original door and I am yet to find one of the right size and period to fit, so in the meantime until I find one I have made a mild steel alternative. Anyway, the oven is now complete all bar access to o chimney! Origionally the oven would have been brought upto temperature with the door open and the smoke/fumes would have been drawn out through the front of the oven and back through the gap above it into to the chimney stack. This is not longer possible as the chimney is blockef halfway up with a flu liner serving a wood burning stove in an upstairs room of the house so I need an alternative. I reckon I could exit the top of the oven if I fit a flu to the outside but here lies the question ... How short could the flu be and still be efficient? I don't want something that's 20ft tall and sticking straight up I the air and so was wondering if a short 4" flu would work as per the line on the picture. Any suggestions would be welcomed as I'd love to get it lit and running. Thanks

Hi all, just a quick one looking for help to identify a tree I spotted in woodland whilst walking the dog yesterday. I've never seen bark like it and without leaves or flowers I can't identify using my woodland app. Its quite unique so I guess you guys/gals can help me out? Thanks Damien

Good morning all, A friend of mine popped by yesterday and dropped off a section of trunk he picked up from a site he was working on. Having recently moved into a house with a wood burner he knew I was on the lookout for wood to season. Anyway the section looks too nice to me to split and I was thinking of wood projects instead. Can you help me identify what species of wood this is as without a leaf to guide me I'm stuffed? Many thanks Damien

Hi folks, I recently moved into a house with a wood burner and the previous owners had left me loads of wood (lucky me) however one of the logs I used was like an indoor firework spitting everywhere. I can't remember what it looked like but I don't think it was like the others. Anyway to save me the torture of dealing with a similar situation I was hoping you might be able to help identify some of the wood I have? I have attached pictures labelled A-F and would really appreciate your help. Many thanks Damien

Again, thank you all. Just for information during the last four years thee tree has consistently produced a decent crop of apples(nothing like previous though.) The tree does now need a 'summer prune' but hopefully will now live on. Regards

All, so its been 4 years and each year a little came off. Today it looks like the pictures attached and is far more manageable and looks much healthier. To offer some protection to the void from the elements I have spent 2 years growing a repeat flowering climbing rose around the lower trunk. This seems to work well and keep the trunk from filling with water. Any way I just thought it would be nice to share the feedback as people dont normally return to forums once they have what they need from the posters (members) Agg221- I think it is now fairly close to your plan from 4 years back - Thank you and thanks to all who posted. Ok, so loosen off the tie downs. Got it. How do I train the braches next year to give me horizontal spead if i allow them to grow and thinken would i stand more chance of damaging them by trying to pull them once there more establised. Is now the time to cut??

Ok so back in July I started this thread with regards to my tree. Now the leaves have fallen I have taken some more photos to show more clearly the branch struture in case there are any further considerations to the previous posts. Also i have been busy 'trying' to train the lower watershoots into branch like structures and have done this to ALL shoots but should i be looking and cutting them out till i get less shoots? Lastly should i start the cutting now???
