1. Hi Can anyone advise me on best time and method to control pine weevil on young Douglas fir please. Trees have been planted 3 years ago and started to show signs of weevil attack late last year. Wondering whether to treat now as weather is warm or wait until weevils appear again. Also do we spray with knapsack or use a dosing type gun? Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you Anthony

    Burr Oak

What are your thoughts on this oak? The bottom burr section is 4 foot at base, 6 foot long out to 3 foot. The last pic shows where an old bow has been cut off. Will this have an effect? How much to charge for sale? Or what might it be worth if in a few years if it is planked and air dried. Will drying it be tricky? What thickness planks would be best. Thanks in advance.
  3. Thank you for your replies. Ant
  4. I have been milling 6x1 Cedar boards for my own use. Just wondering what I would have to pay if I had to by it in. Thanks Ant

Hi Dave

I was going to ask you next time I saw you but noticed you on here. Would you or do you know anybody who would be interested in some Douglas and or Spruce logs? They were blown over back in the spring and have just got around to pulling them out. They are a bit big for my saw. I can get you sizes if interested or you can come and see them.

  6. Thanks I will go and take a look.
  7. Hi. I have the chance of log from the above. Not sure of exact size but approx. 18inches diameter, 6 foot long. Just wondering if it is worth milling and what it may be worth. Thanks. Ant
  8. Thanks Rob D for your reply. I am looking for a 1/4 sprocket to fit the 011 to enable me to fit a dime tip bar. I have had a look at the bars you supply a may be in touch soon. Thanks again. Ant.
  9. I have read the posts here with interest for a while now. I am keen to have a go at carving and have aquired a Stihl 011av. I had planned to get a 12inch carving bar for it. When I looked into this I found out the difference between the quarter tip and the dime tip. (it seems obvious now I know). The picture shows the current bar on the saw and the tip slightly larger than a fifty pence. My questions are, would this be similar to a quarter tip bar and ok for carving? If not what are the benifits of the carving bars?, if the answer is not to obvious. Thanks for your help.

    Yew

Hi I have the chance of some Yew. Just wondering what you think it is worth. It is 10ft long by 2ft at base tapering to about 18inches. I have not seen it yet so assume it is good for milling. Thanks Ant.
  12. That was quick! Thanks both. Tim, I will give you a ring tomorrow. Ant
  13. Hi I am new to the forum and joined because I am looking for an artic load of hardwood to turn into charcoal because I am low on timber this year. I would like to find cordwood that is not ideal for processing into firewood, maybe too small/big, twisted, notted etc. and would need cutting by hand. Ideally Alder, Birch, Hazel, but any hardwood will do from 2inches up to about 12. Green or seasoned. As you may guess hoping this may be cheaper! Or does anyone processing firewood have a pile of twisted/notted timber or that they intend to cut by hand, but may sell? Failing this I will still need to get an artic of mixed hardwood. I am looking to get it delivered to inbetween Hereford and Brecon or can arrange haulage. Thanks Ant
