  1. Depends on the thickness of the envelope!
  2. I had a look at Mynors out of interest. If I read correctly, if the replanting is under s.206, is neglected and dies but is not removed, there is no power for LA to require a replacement. If the replanting is as a condition on a consent, then the LA can require a replacement. 26.6.3 p756
  3. I started to wonder if the sound of a chipper was like the sound of an ice-cream van to kids! As soon as it starts they all come out of their burrows with brown recycle bins, bags, armfuls of random garden waste with the ubiquitous "mind if I put this on your pile?" Which usually gets the "leave it there and put £10 in the van" response! Amazing how that gets a surprised and quizzical look. Oh no, I not here trying to earn a living, I'm just here for general waste disposal and public convenience! God bless them!

  5. Good job! Whilst I might not previously have thought of that as an option, seeing it done means it can be considered in the future if a similar situation arises. Whilst I wouldn't suggest a single example of success (If it works, and the tree comes back to vitality) could be taken as conclusive, but if it does, could it be considered as a challenge (perhaps a bit strong?) to the pollarding guidelines in 3998?
  6. Fair do's, the only point I was making, in line with the start of the thread, is that there isn't any protected status attached to the terms people use to describe their arboricultural output - you can call yourself whatever you like regardless of vocational or academic qualifications. Whatever you're comfortable with...
  7. You don't need an academic qual to call yourself an arborist!
  8. Would the view that is proposed to be restored: a) be the same as the original view in the era that the garden was designed? Even without knowing the site, the answer has to be "no" for so many obvious reasons. b) be considered of such great "value/worth" that it supersedes the 'amenity value' of the trees and warrants their removal? How could that be quantified? Following the thread about methods / validity of determining amenity value of trees and the difficulty and contradictions that throws up (depending upon your opinion of "worth / nuisance" of a given tree) how on earth could a valid submission on the "amenity value" of a view be compiled?? Irony: If you were to propose tree removal for construction you're likely to be buried in TPOs. Maybe "restoring view" is the way ahead??
  9. Is it worth getting hung up about? I could buy a spanner and call myself a mechanic, I could buy a van and call myself a logistics / supply chain specialist, I could buy a spade and call myself an agricultural consultant. Certain professions have a protected status whereby a predetermined qualification is a prerequisite - architect, dentist for example, others have safety quals - gas safe for plumbers for example. Tree work doesn't. That's just the way it is. What would a "controlling body / register" actually achieve? More admin, more cost and another quango with overpaid, overweight desk jockeys justifying their own existence by having committees and dishing out rules & regs all day long.
  10. OK Edward, thanks. Don't suppose you could share the scenario or would that be inappropriate? Just out of interest, understand if not possible.
  11. Perhaps, technically & legally, but in reality would it ever actually happen Roz? LA's (generally) seem to be struggling to meet statutory outputs within budget, I can't see a tree planting storm trooper squad being deployed any time soon. Anyone able to reference a recent example??
  12. Good job! Any chance of a look at the back??
  13. Bear, won't be a prob if you're buying new, but just in case you go "pre-loved" watch out for 110 U SW pre 2008. They are not taxed/registered as 'commercial' so road fund licence is £490ish rather than £270ish (not absolutely sure of figures but there abouts) I got caught out!
  14. There's a lot of headline issues there, but if I may be so bold as to venture, you missed some major breaking news! Gensetsteve reports (post #118) ASDA selling 4 cans for a quid! Now that's madness (even if it is low octane), that has to be cheaper than water? PS, I'm going to make my next bars the ones with the chick in the advert!
  15. I may have misled you a little there.... She hasn't IMPOSED a booze ban, we both realised it was getting a bit much / frequent so decided to go dry for January. It's been a real struggle though at times, how much did I want a can when I got home tonight Apparently, it's really good for liver function to have a decent break but......Roll on Feb!!
  16. Dougie Bennett in Tavistock or Chris Willett (independent) who's in Cornwall but often available in Plymouth. Call Lynher Training at Gunnislake (you might have done some training through them perhaps, if not, they're good to know for the future. Allan will tell you all you need to know) Look up Lynher Training on Google for contact details.
  17. :thumbup:Buy it! Now! Or tell me who's selling it at that price:thumbup:
  18. Top reposte! Mine was only the (rather poor attempt at a) humorous way to idle away a few minutes of spare time while breast feeding the baby (from my strap-on man boob) before bedtime. I'll take you up on that beer (but not before February, the wife has put us on stoppage of beer for a month.) I didn't realise Cameron Diaz had done any other movies?? And as for "listening to her," er, interesting concept! Just to be serious for a brief minute though, you're absolutely right that we should be worried about sexualisation of youth. I'm just not sure censorship or PC etc are the best way to approach it. Surely better to encourage awareness, a grasp of reality, robust character and questioning intellect? It's akin to banning competitive sport so that there are no losers. It takes humankind on a downward spiral towards mutually assured dumbness! Peace out!
  19. You're SO right! I'm in tune with your cosmic vibe about the adverse effect of sex in movies, video games, ads etc. I felt totally inadequate after watching Ron Jeremy service a dozen girls in one session, and as for Grand Theft Auto, there's no way one car can take THAT MANY high velocity rounds, and as for Cameron Diaz in "The Mask", her blatant exploitation of her own IMMENSE sexuality ruined an otherwise informative and intellectually challenging motion picture. Damn this evil sex thing!
  20. Agreed! I take regular "fixes" of Minder, The Sweeny, The Professionals (on ITV4 generally) and The Dam Busters whenever possible to redress the PC (im)balance.
