  1. They have different gear on different days?? Confused! It's just down the road, I'll pass it tomorrow anyway, drop in, have a look, ask, see what's on!
  2. We'll all get 'told off', but you're SO right!
  3. Look at Lynher Training (Gunnislake) http://www.lynhertraining.co.uk/course/
  4. All sounds very accurate & sensible.
  5. The difference between an EN standard and, for example, the BS (Bristish Standard), so far as I understand it, is that compliance with the EN standard is certified by the manufacturer whereas the BS is tested and certified by an independent laboratory. The highest profile case of the ability of a manufacturer to shortcut/abuse/cheat/lie (choose most applicable) the EN system is the PIP breast implant scandal. The EN clearly stated the standard required, the manufacturer claimed to have met the standard but knowingly and fraudulently used sub-standard components with devastating effect. There's no suggestion this might be the case here with such a respected brand name, it's just offered as an observation that might inform understanding of the difference between EN and BS standards. EN is equivalent to marking your own homework.
  6. Can't beat that submission! A cock of the highest order!!
  7. DSC as it's more commonly known (you'll have to work the acronym out for yourselves but another way of putting it would be canine excrement metropolis)
  8. Maybe it's a matter of interpretation? It may well qualify for a 5 day exemption, but if you "take it down" the TPO may remain....
  9. Rob, are you suggesting the TPO will be reviewed / revoked? If so, it's an interesting point (albeit I'm probably taking it off topic.) I've been wondering how many LAs review the validity of existing TPOs. I may be pleasantly surprised but I wouldn't bet my mortgage on it! When I get a minute I think a FOI request to my LA is due.
  10. Took a bit longer than a minute, it turned into an epic!
  11. There's lots of detail in previous threads Will, do a search (PTI) and all the book lists and info will show up
  12. I don't mind at all it there's no tea, no biscuits, no chat - I take everything I need for comfort and sustenance with me. To some people, you're just doing a job - I set a price I'm happy to do the work for, as long as they pay, that's it, deal done. However, and in tune with all the happy circumstances above, Saturday just gone, I was delighted to be offered tea & cake on arrival, bacon & egg banjo and more tea at the midway point, and more tea and chat at the end. The loveliest couple I've done work for - cheque on departure! Now that's a customer that could phone me anytime and I'd help them without a second thought, and if they were in a spot, I'd help them for the pleasure of returning a good deed rather than on a ticket (within reason!!)
  13. I've been wondering (and discussing with my fabrication oppo) the same thing. All we can come up with is cert of conformity for source materiel and then make up several 'test' pieces, then test them to destruction. Establish the failure points then calculate back for safety factor. Anything else would have to be pure guess work? So if you make 1 piece and guestimate a SWL/MBS it couldn't be anything other than a best guess?? Based on source material certificates (the only "known" factor) the weak point / unknown factor would have to be the weld (although fabrication oppo says the weld (if done properly) is stronger than the source materiel)
  14. Good spot! Shame they didn't put a link in the article, maybe early days for public access. Interesting to see Nestle / Unilever involvement - corporations seeking to prove credibility of resources. Of course there is also UK funding - maybe the age of austerity doesn't extend beyond the UK public. I really think the UK public will lose tolerance with funding for projects such as this and the myriad of ring fenced foreign aid projects.
  15. They used to do a £25 reward if you recommend someone who then takes out a policy. I had a cheque from them and didn't even know my mate had told them I'd recommended them! Bonus!!
  16. I think there are issues with building regs in the UK. Something about having separation between mains fresh water and any other system to ensure there's no accidental back-wash of 'unprocessed' water into the mains water system. Not sure of the details but recall discussing it a while back with a guy at work. He had a neighbour running bulk tanks from his green house into his house to save money on his water meter. He got busted because of the risk of Legionella or something...
