  1. Once learnt never forgotten! It's served me well since!!
  2. It wasn't without some initial set up problems. I learnt a key lesson about not splitting contractors on one job, they blamed each other for set up issues and argued about who was liable for rectification. Plus, what I didn't see on install, but is obvious now, the flue is difficult to access for sweeping. Getting the 'recipe' right for pellets has also been tricky (mainly because I've been too busy to dedicate a day or two to tinker) but since we're running on a ton a year (20kg bags delivered roadside on a pallet) at £230, it's not made it to the top of the priority list yet. It will if the sun keeps shining though just so I'm using all the solar PV instead of feeding back to grid!
  3. I really hope this link works, I saw it a while ago and it had me roaring with laughter! If you "get" the silver bears you'll crack up but it might not be to everyone's taste! It's a snap-shot of Cornish haggling!
  4. Pics for Thrust SSC: I'll do a brief summary of capacity etc when I get a minute. In essence, pellet boiler linked to solar thermal, pellet mill operates within output capacity of solar PV in a sunny day, kiln dried sawdust sourced from a mate with a mill. Sweet set up!
  5. What's it called / who's making it?? Like to see that!
  6. Agreed! Mole Valley Farmers is best haven't bought for a while.

  10. We installed biomass Nov 2011. I am satisfied with the system and set up for small scale pellet manufacture. We were replacing the old oil boiler anyway so it made sense (to me) to go greener / self sufficient. There was the (empty) promise from DECC back then for RHI. It wasn't fundamental to the business case, just the cherry on top. I've watched with ever growing distrust and frustration the ineffective, prevarication from DECC. I understand (but don't sympathise at all) after the the solar PV cock-up (government set tariffs so high companies were able to instal for free just to get FIT). Finally, we will apply for domestic RHI (significantly watered down and shortened time frame from that which was originally proposed) 9 Jul as a legacy installation. I'd got very close to running a second feed from the boiler to a barn and qualifying under the commercial RHI (which incidentally was opened on time and as promised Jan 12) Sorry, rant over (I'm not sure all the dates/details are accurate as it's Sunday, I've just woken up & feeling slightly jaded after a rare pub night last night) I wouldn't give tuppence for DECC, or trust em, or rely on em. If you can find a boiler you like and works for you, go for it. If the margins are so tight you have to rely on the RHI to make it stack up, it might be too tight. And don't trust the bloody sales staff for biomass installers. All the info is available to you. I didn't find one that fully understood the system, they just try and dazzle with "wonderful investment" figures.
  11. It would be a Tome! And a fairly worthless one at that because people are fickle and could simply change their mind... Legendary posts though (and the other thread you're labouring on, how do you find the time?) All good reading and much appreciated.
  12. Good news everyone is ok, hope things get back in track soon for you.
  13. Would that be hyper chloride (think the spelling is ok?) I use it for the hot tub & various timber products & algae on house / roof. Needs a careful application, gloves / goggles, it's like a super strength bleach so not fantastically environmentally friendly.
  14. Marc/Matty, no offence would be taken guys! It was the most extreme/over-reach photo I could find and posted as such rather than as an A1 exemplar of best practice!! If I thought for 1 second "I hope no one saw that" then I certainly wouldn't have posted it on here!! (Can't seem to find how to insert a "big grin" on iPhone app but there is one intended!)
  15. Missed the chance @ Aldi but here's what will probably be a better quality set-up at almost same price: http://www.westwardbuildingservices.com/Products/001a0019/DRA24980 I'm pretty sure they do online/delivery, I've got a store local so will drop in & check it out.
  16. I've done it before, and I'll do it again (when appropriate!)
  17. Moooooobs! Not burning many calories!!
  18. I think the "owner/operator" might be at risk of prosecution as well as the employer providing equipment to employees. There was a prosecution in Cornwall recently for a farmer who fell through a barn roof and was found guilty of not having an adequate fall arrest system in place - HSE prosecution. This troubled me as I originally thought, well how can they prosecute him for injuring himself? He hasn't put someone else at risk. I asked the question of a H&SAW lecturer and he explained that the law is applied as the requirement is to protect self & others (employees, visitors, passers-by etc). Made me think about the powered pole saw line clearance off the LandRover roof I did last week!
  19. There is a flip side! Too obvious to ever be adopted though. Do nothing (or even better, encourage inappropriate / untrained operators to use top handled saws. ) Within a reasonable time all the rogues, idiots, cultural groups, thieves, unqualified and inexperienced will cull themselves out of business through traumatic amputation thus leaving the playing field open. Beautifully Darwinian!
  20. Wonder if the Husqvarna R&D team are reading this.....
