  1. Time and effort mate, what would be an hourly rate for you, don't forget power for the grinder. If its too knackerd new chain. I would prob charge 20 quid if it's one chain, takes time to sharpen right, plus you will be changing the angle of the grinder from your normal operating. But then I have been in the same boat before and sharpened for a friend, didn't charge him as he helped me out a few times. How close a friend is it?
  2. Good luck done a ten mile when serving. It was a killer. Arms legs parts of my body hurt I didn't think could hurt or know I had. Its fun there is no doubt about it, my advise is to train some tho. Just make sit easier, and go in with a team to help with some obstacles. Would like to do one again but I think my body has had too much abuse.
  3. Dont bother. The pay will be there but it will be cut throat business, other companies will undercut if they know your quote, you will get the stupid jobs that are a pain. Soon you will Wounder why you bothered. Oh and the paperwork for just one job is stupid, could be a simple hedge cut that needs a book to be filled in and could take you a couple of hours to do the job.
  4. Nice, what camera is on the lid, want to get one for my lid but don't know what people are using or how they are rigged up?
  5. Depends if you tel vosa you have changed the engine on paperwork, if I change the series 2a petrol to diesel and tell them I will get charged, if I don't tell them I will get charged for the petrol not diesel even tho it is. Don't tell them and get stopped and checked then fined, tell them and get charged?
  6. Interesting, alway looked at the top handle layout as being a pain and the handles too small to fit 2 hands comfortably on. Only used one for hedge reductions as I dont climb with a saw. Seen people use it with one hand and it does look "natural" to use in this way. Otherwise what is th point in the top handle. Why not use a small ground saw. Isn't it the 190 something or other that is small but light?
  7. Should be able to buy my Harley with my first week of wages........
  8. IMO go for an older ranger, they seem to last better than the new ones. Hilux is ok, but the 2.4 NA is gutless with a load on. The turbo is better. Don't bother with the l200 they have Lexus engine in them and are more for show.
  9. You cans see we're the chainsaw has improved effieciency when watching how it was done, must have cut one every couple of days....
  10. The hazel needs to be seasoned then steamed then straightened, then sold as blanks. Then someone adds there own touch through pirography or burning or adding some decoration to the top. It's easy to do practically but you need the space to store sticks to allow seasoning. Used to do it a while back but stopped as my time was taken up with family matters and never really got back into it.
  11. Oh no the oldies are taking over, Come on younguns show yourselves, this can't be a forum for the senile folk, I'm not impressed,
  12. Everything gets stamped, chainsaws are stamped under the handles on crankcases, we're removing the stamp is hard or not seen without stripping bits off the saw, same with strimmers and the like, big stuff like chippers gets tracking chip. Leave nothing to chance.
  13. Hey it's what happens when you ask for help with people that work in an environment were everyone had to look out for each other. Something about camaraderie. Hope things get better for you and all the best, keep us informed tho, like to know that you get on ok, or if you have a bad day get it off your chest here.
  14. Had the 2a round again, fuel tank corroded itself, leaking fuel like a water fall, spare tank under passenger seat is swapped over and fine again. Cost= a few bolts as others sheard off. Mot on wed. Should pass ok then it's off to logging.
  15. Cool thanks for the posts, he likes the Willians and it suits him fine so think he will stick, he been climbing in the woods for practise and has got good at it, fast aswell. The ascenders and descenders are a bit of afterthought as don't actually need them but I want some so it's a good chance to buy some.
  16. Friggin iPad. What's the vid called? Will look it up.
  17. Hamadryad link broke. I have to say skyhuck you have now let the missis see my soft side as I had tears in my eyes for that. First time I've seen that. Phenomenal.
  18. Been 23 for the last 10y years me.
  19. Sending the new guy off to do climbing arial rescue soon, what kit is good or worth getting him. He likes the willans seated harness got that already and some spikes but looking for ascenders descenders. Etc Rope is not a problem got LOADS of that. So what kit is good in your eyes and what should we avoid. More importantly what he needs for the course, I know it's 35m of climbing line but what else. I've done the course but it was yonks ago and my gear is probably out dated by now, plus it's old and he needs some new shiny gear?
  20. By the Time you get half way thro chopping that lot the rest will be rotten and useless.
  21. think elf and safety might hve to stop you doin the work unless you can show you are competent enough to use it safely and you have all the nesessery ppe to not get any on yourself or the ground so you dont contaminate teh sorounding areas?
  22. Took a second for the pic to load. Had to look twice very good
  23. Don't think they want to do the job in case the engine needs lifting out to get to the belt areas. Or the radiator out. The pulley is held in place by a bolt and a stop behind if this has worn out and allowed the pulley to move it can't be replaced and they have to go back to the crank area and pull that apart to get to it. I would see another garage and see whatrice they give for it.
  24. Ok so it could. Be new belts and aux units. If the pulley has moved towards the engine could be thrust bearing gone. That means crank off and replace. Hilux4x4 is a good site they can point in the right direction of what is involved in this. If the bearings have failed this could be a bigger job if the crank has moved back.
