Oil and water don't mix well so water above 300 parts per million will settle out over time and can be drained off at the lowest point. You could try a MR Funnel, about 20 quid, it works with diesel but I have never used it with hydraulic oil, obviously it will be slower as the oil is higher viscosity
So that would explain why the oil is clear on the level viewer before it’s started up again. Would I be right in presuming that the moisture that’s condensated has settled at the bottom of the tank and by draining about half a pint it would have eliminated the water ?
-
Yes, just from condensation.

I have an issue with my timber trailer hydraulics. Over the winter months it’s stored in a barn and brought out again in the spring when drier conditions allow timber extraction. The hydraulic oil become contaminated due to condensation while inactive. So is it better to drain the system and leave it empty or top it up full to the limit and take out the excess prior to use. The tank is plastic.

Has anyone any tips for removing the hydraulic oil from the hoses of a small timber crane. I have drained the holding tank but the oil in the hoses doesn’t drain freely. Can it be forced through with an air compressor. It needs to be removed as it is contaminated.

Has anyone any suggestions for tyre valve protection for trailers that have wheels without built in protection?

its probably just milky where its met the water. Drain resevoir down and clean out. It'll flush through when you add fresh. Change filter also.
Other than that you'd have to disconnect at the actuators, let it out and then just carefully bleed it afterwards. Unless its milky through out i just do the reservoir bit.
Thanks for that. Would certainly save a lot of hassle that way ?

I have some milky hydraulic oil that needs changing. How do I flush all the oil from the lines that go right to the grapple on my crane ?

Can anyone recommend radio ear defenders that will fit on a petzl helmet that have am or dab radio or a combined forestry helmet that has am / dab radio ?

Anyone offer some feedback on these. Look really useful.

I have been given some 46 grade hydraulic oil. Can I use it on my valmet / valtra tractor or is it too dense ?

For those of you that have stayed in the woods to finish a thinning or extraction because it's easier and more productive to stay, apart from camping or caravan, did you ever adapt a vehicle to suit your overnight accommodation ?

I have a new chainbrake/ handle still in its packaging if you are interested.

Been delivering today so took some pictures. It's not perfect and as you can see some get hung up behind the wheel arches but it beats handballing them all off. It got loaded all the way to the back but I had an assistant.
Paddy can't resist jumping in the truck even with logs being thrown in over him
Thanks woodworks, appreciate that advice and taking the time to take photos , nice dog.

Has anyone modified their loadhandler to ensure more logs come out. I have found that a few are left back because the sheet has slid under them ?

Recommendations for snow ploughs for alpine tractor ?

Been after a loadhandler for a while now but every time I check the website they are still awaiting stock. Anyone know when the uk stock is going to be available ?
-
Is that the Jona?
How much can you lift with the loader?
Yes. Depends on how much weight you have on the back but will easily lift a cube bag of logs . It's thought that loaders put extra stress on the front axles but I've not heard of anyone with issues.

Our antonnio carrarro 48 hp has made life so much easier for extracting. Must have reduced our time on site by half. It dosent churn the ground up and is very maneuverable.

Hello Branston, think it's about time a case of your finest was on its way ! And to add another point, sent the mrs out shopping last night to provide for last nights tea. And guess what I'm on the beans again this morning ! How many other meals can you have for breakfast, dinner, tea, supper and not question it ?
