  1. Thanks for referring to both of the interesting threads Gerrit! Will refer more people in SAF into it as well.
  2. Today is the last day to register to the conference. We have a great participation and there will apart from speakers from the UK, Italy and Germany, also be participants from other countries. Final registration day TODAY!
  3. Wow, you really take this further Tony and Gerrit! Good to know what fungi to look for, escpecially the Collybia fuspies Gerrit! :-) Seems like the stem can stay, at least for a while. Children are already loving it. Björn Karlsson who went out to document for SAF and for his own curiosity has gotten copies of your answers meanwhile he awaits to get an account here and be able to reply himself. The purpose of our questions is not to be able to tell exactely what made it fall, but to learn in general. And of course we also reflect on differences between this oak and the TV/Radio oak now felled. There are plenty of differences, but also similarities. THANKS!
  4. Unfortunately we don't know. People are trying to get hold of more pictures of the tree while it was standing. A photographer is living next to it and has numerous of photos. The land raise here was about 1,5 meters, made in the 1950ies. By that one could be satisfyed and think that new or further knowledge is not to be fetched from the situation... But there is always something to learn. At times oaks show much earlier response to fillings, at times they hardly show at all.
  5. Thanks Paul and Gerrit! I was unsure on where to post this. I didn't check the tree myself either but helped the guy documenting yesterday and I hope that he will continue. I will post him both your comments and pass it over to him until I have time to dig more in it! Thanks again, Cilla
  6. Welcome to give your expertize and clever thoughts on why this oak fell some nights ago! Short desciption and photos here: Vällingbyeken som föll
  7. treeseer. Typical funny thing that happens when translating texts. The cost of cure used in the US could be good to study for other old trees now under discussion in the country. I have seen them years ago but if you want to refer to the latest, it would be great!
  8. A bit revised program: Program Ancient Trees Eng
  9. Thanks Gerrit! This will be actual for us in SAF when we have finished this spring's projects, which are a few. There is a good project on its way that is comparing the various models used in this country already, and of course we are thinking of making it a bit wider, digging in all models used in Europe. We'll for sure getting back here about this!
  10. Tony - about the lead: Yes, we take the lead and direct. But you should see - each participant also takes a lead and makes the conference lead to somethhing even better than we expected. So - we are also looking forward to see where it leads! CAVAT: Yes I know some about it, but have never used it myself, I have used Kochs since it is recognized by justice, but I think I will change next time. We have a discussion in Scandinavia on what to use since many years, I think we are ready to make one or two models become The Ones soon. Has been weakening that we use so many models. Is CAVAT The One in the UK now?
  11. Thanks Sean and Tony! This conference is a little revolution in itself. We'll see how it goes and where it leads to. I'll remember that Gandhi quote. During the relatively short preparation time we have had many speakers and workshop leaders coming and going before the program was set just a short while ago. There are really quite a number of "tree people" in the world that would be wonderful to bunch together one day! And yes Sean, pity that this planet is so big...
  12. Welcome! International participants will be able to exhibit their work on old or ancient trees. Just talk to the conference direction at [email protected]. Conference fee is SEK 2200 inkluding meals, which is about 200 pounds. We are keen on assisting participants from abroad. Simply mail us about your needs!
