  1. Got the timber sorted for the my memorial bench today. Its going to be made out of solid oak and coach screwed together apart from the back rest and the seat supports which will be bolted together. It will be certainly made to last.

yes that will be nice job well done and plenty of memories as your doing it cheers andrew

  2. Silky was such a treat for hazel coppice after years of doing battle with the bow saw frame. Don't suppose it matters much if you are taking down the whole lot but for selective cutting it made life so much easier.

yes i agree totally:thumbup: i cut alo tof walking sticks and 8/10 times the best stick in a clump of hazel is in the centre and the silky is right in there no ptoblem where as the bowsaw is catching on the other sticks plus

the silky is back in the holster both hands free to carry the walking sticks :thumbup:

  3. Been smiling all day! Having a great holiday:)and being on holiday doesn't mean I don't work, especially when it's for my Auntie and my only fee is a cup of Coffee:rolleyes: Brought a basic climbing with me and of course "excalibur" (my Nakanoto) but forgot my Sawpod:thumbdown: luckily had some string:thumbup:..topped six foot off two Connies..over 200 stems handcut;)

hello you put up some realy nice quotes and pictures since you left london for the christening of your grandson

    nice one andrew

perfect hinge and cut you could win a felling competition with your silky:thumbup::thumbup:

  4. One or two if not more said we would donate a few quid to the children's trust if Jon (mendi-plogs) wore a German helmet and a pink pacamac to the Arb show.

Ok we could not get the pink pacamac on time but we did get the German helmet. And Jon wore it until he lost it:laugh1:So I think those who said we would throw a few quid in should.

I'll put my few quid in tomorrow.

hello yes i said i will donate £10 and i will as soon as i can find out 100% where to send it :thumbup:

that helmet was perfect for the day:thumbup1::thumbup1: maybe get some ear defenders and visor and sell them as chainsaw helmets

    but not online though:lol::lol::

  5. the sooner we copy sweden and the north europe countries the better, use every last piece, the trees cut young for firewood, the brash chipped for biomass and community boilers the stump out and chipped then coming through immediately and replanting young plants.

we still are not getting small woodlands back into production too much consultation and not enough action. - again i could go on about so called grant funding and improvements - but dont get me ranting on about that!

firewood will never compete prices wise with such as coal, but surely if we encourage the burning of softwood where some would say " oh we only sell premium hardwood " tosh - they are not proper firewood merchants - all wood is good!

if they only sell harwood - and customers get used to this we are on a downward spiral.

we need quick growing commerical production and reeducate so called firewood merchants , stove installers etc who have jumped on the bandwagon of seeing a growing industry.

    just my opinion

prepare to be shot down in flames

    joy

this is a very good point and a very good post:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

i sell alot of logs throughout the year and i only sell mixed loads its just the way it gets stacked some loads will be 15% softwood some will be 50% softwood but all the wood will be well seasoned and most of the softwood used will be wood that isnt good enough for timber ie knotty or croooked so the wood is heavier if it is knotty there are always people that complain but thats my deal so take it or leave it

people buy the lognets no problem full of softwood

i would sooner have a nice load of douglas rather than a load of turkey oak any day :thumbup:

  6. i just read this thread through from the start it is very informative and wonderful photos a credit to all who put it together a big:thumbup: which will help the untrained eye spot the problems

just a small question does this fungus/disease affect the oriental plane trees
