1. As stated above, thinning would probably be the best policy and make Dothistroma (red band needle blight) less of an issue. You could also consider underplanting. Also as stated above get professional advice and get a management plan done as a priority
2. Hi All, We have some cell grown conifers surplus to requirements: 600 Douglas fir 240 western red cedar 570 Japanese red cedar All 40-60cm good quality trees from a reputable nursery. Open to offers otherwise I will have to heel them in for beating up next year... Could deliver to Kent / East Sussex Cheers Jools
3. Client doesn't like the look of them so we are removing them piecemeal as soon as the trees are >1.2m tall - as then above browsing height and above weed competition. The alder have grown really fast on this site.
4. We will be removing a few hundred clear plastic rabbit guards (60cm x 50mm) from a new planting site in the next month or so. They have only been on the trees a couple of years so there should be plenty of life in them yet. It seems a shame for them to go to landfill - if anyone is interested in re-using them they can have them for free - collection from Bangor N Wales. Please PM me if interested... Cheers Jools
5. Hi, I am looking for someone with PA1 / PA6 and insurance to spray approx 3.5ha restock site. There is pretty much 100% bracken cover although at the moment its not much above knee height. Needs doing soon so that replanting can be done this winter. Not a steep site but I am assuming that this will have to be a knapsack job rather than tractor because of the old stumps etc???? Please pm me if interested! Thanks Jools
6. Also consider the need for weevil control if it was previously under conifer...
7. Drench gun will give the correct measured dose so you will probably use less chemical but I think you will find it quicker with a knapsack sprayer
8.
Hi, I would be interested in some more details about the work. We are based in Warwickshire, but currently undertaking a large surveying and tree works contract in Rochester, my telephone number is 07724194775. If you need me to look at it quickly I am available tomorrow afternoon, tue 4th. Kind Regards Tim

9. Hi, I'm looking for someone with relevant experience / quals / insurance to carry out a tree safety audit for an estate in Kent. Immediate start, maybe a weeks work? Please pm me for more details if interested Cheers Jools
10. I would be interested. Have PA1 / PA6 and own gear / insurance. Your inbox is full!
11. Hi, At the moment there are No grants available for replanting because they closed the old "Better Woodlands for Wales" grant scheme before putting a new one in place! There will be a new grant scheme, Glastir Woodland Management, along "sometime soon" and this will include restocking grants. We have been waiting all year so dont hold your breath!!! This will be administered by the Welsh Government, as you may know the Forestry Commission are being merged with the EA and CCW in Wales.
12. Not sure about the sums, but a £ in 20 years time is not the same as a £ now!
13. Hi, Try here: http://www.micron.co.uk/shop/product/4 We have used these for weevil spraying on restock sites, not sure they will be any good for stem injection though...
14. If you are using Roundup I would say that it would be better to allow a fair bit of regrowth to occur first. More leaves = more surface area to absorb the chemical. I have certainly found this works best with rhododendron regrowth anyway....
15. I think frost tolerance is the limiting factor in the UK. There is some interesting info here: Prima Bio - eucalyptus specialists - promoting new uses for eucalypts
