Hi, been milling with a 36inch bar for a while and now want a 48". The standard stihl one is available but I know others are out there specifically for milling, any suggestions please.

Thanks Jonathan, built it to house my bandsaw which was lifted over my house with a crane. Still milling a little timber but having trouble getting a kiln sorted to dry it properly. Would love a setup like yours but just don't have the space. Maybe one day!

Hi, I built a workshop for myself earlier this year from trees I milled with an Alaskan mill and a large bandsaw. Constructed of 4x4 and 6x4 timbers, I used some traditional joints along with other modern fixings to make life easier. The timber I used was part seasoned and well treated with various anti woodworm and fungus paint. Still standing strong and has survived high winds a few times now with no issues.
Good luck building yours!

Thanks for the offer of the garrett ace 250 smith77 but abit out of my price range.
Would something like this be any good Standard Discriminating Metal Detector : Metal Detectors : Maplin ? or would i be better getting a better quality second hand one like spudulike recommends? Also anyone know what the relation between depth these detectors can detect in wood compared to soil?

I have recently hit a number of 6 inch nails and a rifle bullet right in the centre of some sycamore damaging my chain and so started to use a cheap detector but again I hit nails, finishing of the chain.
What metal detector is best for finding stuff deep in wood that is resonably priced?

Im looking for a midrange proffessional chainsaw such as a Stihl Ms440 or a good condition 044 or any other similar saws. I have cash waiting and am willing to travel to a certain extent around the south west of Scotland and Edinburgh area or would be happy to pay postage or arrange courier pickup. Please get in touch with any offers.

I have access to quite a wide variety of stuff if you want a pallet's worth. The pallet is only £60, so it's quite economical.
At present I can get - Elm burr, Yew, laburnum, cherry and a few other bits and bobs too.
Is the burr elm still available? If so i would be very interested.

Thanks for the advice. Gave cannon a call today but was told only the standard Super Bar was available. So leaves me with two options the GB or the Cannon. Any suggestions to which is tougher? I am hesitant in spending this much so needs to last.
