  1. Send me your details, I may be able to help. I'm in gloucestershire.
  2. I like to see him climb a tall thin conifer on a windy day, It would look like a rhino pole dancing
  3. Agree about customer service. Went to see them at the arb show to buy a machine and they didn't want to give me the time of day. Sorry oxidase you lost a very easy sale.
  4. £10.00 per week for yard and barn. Not what you know it's who you know
  5. Logged thousands of tons of beech and sycamore, it's always hard to tell from pictures. It can be pretty obvious when you pick the stuff up. Beech is so much heavier than sycamore. Both good burning woods though
  6. You all serious? It's beech you can tell from the way the bark has little dots under Neath the pealing part. Put my house on it.
  7. A little advise with the chains. When trying to get them around the large diameter pieces on the stem, I signal to the crane driver to help wrap them around with the boom. I hold the chain and he moves the boom to the side, then lowers it around the back of the stem then pulls it around to me. If that makes any sense. I'll try and post a vid and you can see. I had to do it this way as a redwood I did was over 5 foot and it's pretty hard throwing those chains around. Forgot to ask what ton crane did you have and what you paying a day.
  8. Hey glad it went well. How was it ? Any bits take you by surprise. Post some pics. Got my big beech to do next week. I'll get a vid done and posted
  9. Cedar is very heavy on the end of the branches. Make sure your limbs are well balanced. Keep your step cuts as tight as possible. On the big timber don't be scared to use wedges to keep the weight off the saw as you are cutting through. Also as it's you first, cut a small bit and communicate with the crane driver to get a ideal of weight. And ask him what weights you can lift with the location of the crane. Hope that somewhat helps. If you want to see some our work on a crane check out "tom organ arborist" on you tube
  10. I'm in stroud gloucestershire. Crane weighed one piece at 4.8 tons. One at 3.5 and a couplle at 2-3 tons. All in the yard and ready to go. Lengths are approx 10 foot. I'll try and up load a pic
  11. I have some massively wellintonia if you are interested. It is 4-5 foot in diameter. I have a a few pieces. Would that be any good. Have not got the time to mill at the moment
  12. Hi two acres I'm a woodland owner, one of the great books I read is Ben laws woodland book. He says it pays to go to the wood and just sit and look around. You will feel what needs to be removed and what needs to stay. Dead wood is great for habitat and wood peckers, have a look at what wildlife you have. Are there a lot of squirrels? If so check the condition of the hardwood trees. What may look good from the ground maybe nakared in the crown from squirel damage. These trees if small will hardly develop, trust me I see this over a lot of acres. Always keep in the back of your mind you can fell the trees but won't be able to stick them back together. If you want a chat on the phone pm me your details as typing is hard when you have fingers like pig tits All the best and above all have fun. And get loads of ppe it's always worth being safe

  15. The stihl splitting axe. About 75 quid. I've had mine fir 5 years and I do over 150 loads a year by hand. Do the maths and you will see how it pays
  16. Anybody else sat for 5 mins looking at which colour to have on the chart or just me dreaming
