  1. Hi all. I am currently living in the Dorset (Dorchester/Yeovil) area and am looking for employment. I have finished, towards the end of last year, the City & Guilds Trees and Timber Arb. course at Kingston Maurward college and have come out of that with the diploma along with my cs30,31,38 and 39. I am currently doing voluntary work, which I have been doing for the past 2 years, which has provided me with a fair bit of experience. This has been mainly ground based although I have been doing various small climbing bits and pieces, and I often do a bit of rec. climbing or a bit of deadwooding just to get a bit of practice in. I have all basic climbing gear, PPE etc Full driving licence (clean) & own transport CS30,31,38 & 39 I am perfectly happy to do a little bit of unpaid work as a kind of trial, and I am happy to work from the ground up, so to speak, I'm just looking for someone to give me a chance, with a company where I can learn and develop. I am very hardworking, punctual, strong and have a great work ethic. I pick things up very quickly and have a great deal of common sense and initiative. My number is 07785788637 or my email is [email protected] if you think I can be of use to you. Thanks in advance James
  2. I'm quite big too. Have the large size (2) harness.
  3. I have a Sequoia and it is really comfortable. I found that the Weaver pinched my legs together and restricted movement somewhat.
  4. Oh, haven't checked back here for a while. Was wearing jeans because it was just Silky work and I assumed, wrongly it seems, that there wouldn't be much danger
  5. I have a Petzl Sequoia (regular, not the swing version). Reaaallly comfy..
  6. Cut through my knee to my kneecap 2 weeks ago with my Silky while doing some minor work. Was wearing jeans, didn't even realise I had done it, there was no pain. Looked down, saw I had cut my jeans and was about to carry on until I saw something white throught the hole - 'twas my kneecap. Climbed down, got someone to drive me to A&E, got 4 stitches. Was quite a clean cut Was a total lack of concentration, my mind was on something else. Won't make that mistake again..
  7. Thanks, hope so too, although it's unlikely.
  8. Hi, Had a few items stolen last night, luckily the alarm scared them off before they could take more. Was an ms390 saw (not been used much, had an 18" bar on it), an fs56 brushcutter and a Stihl hedge trimmer (can't remember model) All have a postcode marked on them in paint & UV pen Were stolen from the Cerne Abbas/Dorchester/Yeovil area (DT2) Just thought I'd put it here in case someone comes across anything. Thanks
  9. Just wanted to say thanks for the exceptional service, super-fast delivery and the fact that everything I have needed I have found to be the cheapest on your site. Have made 3 orders and they all came the next working day. Keep up the good work!
  10. Ok, thanks. Yeah, was using both ends of my line with prusiks at college. So the idea with a strop is that instead of progressing by alternating between the different ends of the line you just attach yourself to the limb with the strop, then disconnect from your climbing line, re-position it, reconnect and continue?
  11. Guess it's better to actually try them before I buy, after all, they aren't cheap and I'd only end up regretting it I guess. I'm just really keen to get some practice in. I'll have a look for some arb shops in my area. If anyone knows of any I'd be grateful if you'd point me in the right direction. I''ll look up dates of shows too, although I'm quite keen to get my harness as soon as really. On a separate note, I recently bought a few karabiners, some prusik cord, a 37m length of ropewith 1 end spliced and a helmet. I wasn't using any more than this at college climbing using 2 prusiks and figured this would be ok for the basics. Can anyone suggest anything else that I would need, apart from the harness of course.
  12. Ok, I will have a look, see if I can find a dealer nearby. Can anyone point me in the direction of any in Dorset, nearish to Dorchester? In general though, I know some harnesses are suited to more slender people, is the Sequoia one of those?
  13. Hi all, I'm currently doing an arb course at college and I've just started my cs38. I need a harness, I'm not employed by a tree firm at the moment so I need all the practice I can get. Im quite a large bloke, 6'2", 17 stone 36ish waist. I have been using a weaver harness at college and while it fits ok it isn't the most comfy and I found my legs were very restricted. I have been told that the Skylotec would suit my size but I was just wondering whether the Sequoia in large/extra large size would fit me too. Thanks
