  1. Yep, I appreciate the difference a brash mat makes, since that is my only option once in the forest, it is the 400 or 500m of moss rodden I need to traverse to get that length, that is more of a problem, I know I should preservere and drag the whole trees ever furthur before delimbing in order to pave it:blushing: I'll get there yet. PS Perhaps a new toy = winch would stir me to greater efforts Cheers M
  2. jph, not selling (yet), due to extracting from rank moss with an ag tractor, I need to stay out of it when wet, I saw the hash made when a neighbour on adjacent ground clearfelled and got the timber extraxted by 8 wheel drive forwarders. Therefore until I have sufficient timber extracted to "buffer" me through I will not commit to selling/establishing a firewood round. Der system would not let me Edit my last post....10 minute rule kicked in I type tooooooo slow
  3. Erm, head like a sieve, I forgot to query the line speed option. I presume I am better with the higher speed option i.e the .9m/s rather than the .6m/s, since I am only pulling smaller stuff
  4. Yes I was aware of the Igland quality/pricing.( and Posch stuff too:001_smile:) But for me is hobbyweekend use only (which is why I had been looking 2nd hand) The Uniforest does indeed look to be a strong contender, though I would kinda like to deal with the local Kerpen agent. Since I have tormented him for long enough There does however appear to be quite a disparity in the remote control version pricing between the Uniforest & the Kerpen. Which probably swings it for the Uniforest. Am off next week so will have to decide then. Thanks Brushcutter. Cheers M
  5. Due to the dearth of second hand winches (my excuse) I will probably hafta buy new.(plus VAT ) 4 or 5 tonne, and could just be tempted by the electro hydraulic remote control. So (i) either a Farmi (NI dealer, pile em high & sell em cheap?) (ii)Or a Kerpen? (also available locally) (iii)Or a Uniforest from Riko (iv)Or an Ingland Any odds?, other than price that is. Plus What do I need?, I am dealing with 30 year old Sitka & Lodgepole, no big stuff. Decisions decisions.
  6. For what its worth I have been running a 40KW Solarbayer (linked to a 2200litre buffer tank) this past 4 years or so. I burn mostly conifer, & currently working with Lodgepole pine. Her be heating near 4000 sq ft of a 1995 built house, without difficulty, though in fairness an 8KW Morso burns in the living room, which helps, the hall sits at between 18 & 20 degrees. I would say the wood does need to be DRY, the only problem is I suspect that in out North Atlantic climate it is (i) touch & go getting the timber dry enough and (ii) keeping it dry with our prevalent atmospheric moisture ( when stored in an open fronted shed) I have yet to build an insulated boiler room, but I then really need some mechanised way of bring the firewood in on rotation for say a week or two to get it up to say 20 deg before burning, this period should also drive a bit of the excess moisture out. Cheers M
  7. Hanjamkat, might be interested in this, is it still for sale?, I see there were other enquiries? ,a photo would be nice? pm me if you like cheers M
  8. I am not an arboiculturist, I merely "cut sticks", I turned up here looking for a winch for an ould 1490 DB, ( & tinternet search found that 6 tonne tajfun advertised on here) I got about 40 acres of various ages of Sitka and lodgepole ( mostly windthrown) to work my way through, & if I can ever accumulate more firewood than I burn heating the house I might even get into the firewood business, if I was not bone idle. cheers M
