  1. I work in parks and open spaces and I have to be fair 90% of the people pick it up but there's always the minority who dont , the worst part of my job ( on overtime ) is emptying the doggie bins especially after heavy rain and you really do get covered in splash backs but at least I'm getting paid time and a turd .

  2. Some of you on here talk if us council workers dont pay tax or council tax , my comments yesterday were tongue in cheek , thats why i referred to going fishing , the good old days have long gone , cut backs are that hard now you would not believe , we have also had a pay freeze on our wages for the 3rd consecutive year , its all ok by me as long as there are no job cuts , on our department if you cut any more there would be no one left ..I can under stand peoples frustrations about councils under cutting them as you say but in many circumstances i can not see how , take our department every thing is leased so you have to pay for that , you have to pay the gang for doing the job 3 mens wages x £26 an hour , secetarys wage , supervisors wage , managers wage , councillors wage , there are just to many on costs in my opinion ..also if you were any good you should be winning these jobs i sense alot of bitterness of quite a few of you , dont blame the man /woman on the tools blame top brass in the ivory towers , good luck all , be safe .

  3. I work for the council and i am off into work this morning to borrow the van and chipper to do private jobs as you call it and make about £500 on top of my £21k plus £6k ( stand by ) plus £10k overtime all for leaning on a shovel as some of you put it , 20 years plus experience and passionate about trees and horticulture but has no idea about jack as some of you say , Carwyn Jones made a statement that if we dont find work we wont have any so basically get out there and fight for it , i will be fighting tooth and nail , good luck .

  4. Although they are on rougue traders they still get pleanty of work , not every body sees these programmes so they dont know , these guys also do drive ways , fencing , garden maintenance , building work , i know because they live in the same town as me .

  5. My advice would be ask them if you can see the risk assesment sheet for that day and also what are there risk assesment criterias for there work , also if the operatives are trained in risk assesments and if so can you see all the relevant paper work , if you smell a rat ask them if you can see the risk assesment book for the last 6 months work , no council in this country saves them i would be very surprised if they did , good luck i will try and get some inside info for you tomorrow my mate works for a council insurance department i shall seek his advice.
