    Last weeks job

Fairly large oak between two property,s. Take down, remove and clean up. No damage or mess. Plus more Oak pics, and Beech fell.
  2. Hi Paul, What is the actual cost of the course?? Cheers Rob from Wirral. Hey Rob...sorry should have said = FoC (but you have to bring yer own baggin) Hope that's oaky with you. Cheers.. Paul
  3. I myself have a JO BEAU M 500/24H one of the best things i ever bought. It is drive-able get in most places. It will chip 100mm/ 4" but do not put anything through really over 50mm/ 2" as this is fire wood. I get people telling me they ask some of the large company's when they see them chip 8"-10" stuff if they can have it, but no, (do,nt ave the time love) they reply. What a shameful waste. And hey climb safe out there.
  4. Talk about take the man to the mountain. Its bad enough if you get a bit of a log roll on a slight gradient, and you,r looking at at for 20" 30" up a stem. I hear you shouting to the groundie...... Stop that LOG.
  5. Was in Rotorua in 2009, loved the whole country was there for a month can not wait till we get back. South Island next time. And hey climb safe out there.
  6. Nice firewood. Love to have that at the moment.
  7. So does this go on gross train weight?? or just your vehicle gross weight? Sorry if i sound a bit thick, it is early yet. Cheer,s.
  8. Hi i am not an installer but i had a new stove fitted about 18 months ago. If as you say you,r floor covering is non combustible i assume this would be ok. I have a carpeted floor and in my case needed a minimum of 12" hearth. I think it is all to do with the dangers of hot material falling onto a surface that may ignite. Hope this helps. This is only what i have experienced. My fire was fitted by an approved fitter with certificates and fume/gas detectors also fitted.
  9. There are things we all get taught but whom remembers everything the where ever taught at school?? I have been in business 33 years now. I do not claim to be the best the cleverest or do i believe i know it all we never can learn everything. Experience is great knowledge. Building up good relationships with local authority,s, keeping abreast of latest rules regs and of course HSE. I can change a spark plug and do minor mechanical repairs but i do not call myself a Mechanic. I can also do diy but i am not a builder. A healthy respect of those who are more academically qualified is also beneficial. I have learned so much in my business career, but all the time techniques change plus diagnostic,s in tree health and care. I do have lots of certs myself but i can not identify every fungi or tree health issue either. That,s where the Expert Arborist comes into his or her own. Consultants charge for their time and advice and usually have professional indemnity insurance to cover any advice they give. Some of the larger tree companies have the Arboist at the top he prices jobs and sends out a couple of young lads who have done a one month,s course at a college, this is then a company of arborist,s?? I have seen some terrible work done by them. Anyway enough of my rambling,s. Oh and hey climb safe out there.
  10. Do not know if an alarm that links an alert to you,r mobile phone will do either. I know of a agent, and repair shop locally. He had one his went off he rang the police. It took hitm 3 mins to get there and they,d long gone. Took about £20,000 in a couple of minutes. The local constabulary turned up almost one hour later. It was apparently a gang with car and van with about six guys. Sorry to be down beat.
  11. I,ll have the wood. No seriously it is good to burn hence the fires that rage in the outback of Australia. A lot depends on the age and condition of the tree to say how easy or difficult it will be to take down. Height and position to hazards too. And hey climb safe out there.

    Sawdust

Love the sawdust burning stove. Would it burn chainsaw saw dust as well. As when we rip stuff and we get the shavings rather than small chips. Would be able to live in me shed then. lol.
  13. Ok, thanks for the reply. When i hit the big time i,ll order one.
  14. Ay appn lad. I agree with most of what you,r saying nice over hang on the roof. Sides i use off cut.s (ripped) for about 1" to 3" do,nt matter if its waney either. I have made curtains yes curtains which i can roll down if windy and wet. If you have hedges trees or walls if you build your store near them then the rain less likely to get on the wood. Keep a good air gap under to. I have at least 300mm off the ground. I am also using 1" and 2" steel mesh for base and some of the sides to.

    Holly

Hi all well i keep trying different ways of drying wood. I get it all cut up in the summer and have built store after store i need about 8 to 10 tonnes through the winter. I am trying to dry it quicker during the summer. All my storage is at least 300mm off the ground on flagged areas if poss as in the winter the ground moisture goes up. If you can get it in the sun even better I do find though that if it is on a larger paved or stoned area the heat generated on warm days circulates though drying it much faster. Black painted steel backs or tin sheets facing the sun is great to. I am trying to dry stuff using natural air flow and convection role on summer.
