  1. Hello Spud.

First, thank you for all your most usefull contributions to Arbtalk.

Now I have 'supplie devant vous' I wish to ask your advice.

I have a 2009 Stihl pole saw power unit which now only runs on half choke.

What are the possible causes of this?

    Regards

    Stuart Lee

Worth checking the valve clearances then, this causes many poor running issues on these machines

Hi Stuart, if the unit needs half choke then the carb isn't supplying as much fuel as it should. Usual issues would be carb tune, holed or bad fuel line, bad fuel filter or the carb needs a clean and refurbish. Typical carb issues are shyte in the gauze strainer, holed or damaged pump diaphragm or hardened metering diaphragm. Sometimes removing the H&L screws and using carb cleaner down their holes can resolve issues.

That's about it for the first pass.

      Good luck

      Steve
