  1. That sound fine - the smaller the chrome rod the more power the ram will have on the return stroke but most splitters require very little force for this. The chrome rod needs to be a sufficient diameter not to bend so any thing above 40mm should be O.K(unless its a very long ram)
  2. 13.5" stroke should be perfectly adequate as long as the bore is greater than 3":thumbup1:
  3. If your potato box is 64 cubic feet you have 1.8 cubic meters of loose stacked wood - or £55 per cubic meter. Sounds cheap but the customer won't see it that way .
  4. Looks very similar to my Price-Fallows splitter which has a 2 foot square table. If I was building my own I would make the table at least 4 foot wide. I have made up some 20 foot long extention hydraulic hoses so I can use it on a loader tractor.Drop splitter off next to tree, turn tractor around and throw split logs into bucket:thumbup1:
  5. I have a manual for the 113 and 116. The 113 has the same stroke, bore and displacement as the 112. Basic settings are (H)=1 turn and (L)=1.1/2 turns for the 113 and 116 I hope this helps - Chris

    Broken oregon chain

Definitely on the join as two right hand cutters are together - maybe the rivet was over tightened ? Who made the loop ?
  7. If you don't have an operators handbook you can download one from the husqvarna website. There are 4 manuals for the 395 make sure you choose the right one for the age of your saw. There is a section on how to adjust your chain oil pump for different lenght bars. It doesn't sound like enough oil especially if you are running a longer bar , but the viscosity of your chain oil will influence how much is actually pumped and in this cold weather the oil will be thicker than normal.
  8. Fuel starvation is when an engine cannot get enough fuel to run or maintain a certain speed. What you appear to have is a leak in the fuel system, which is not leaking fuel ,but is allowing air to enter the system when the vehicle is left stopped for a period of time. The bleed off line, or the leak off line ,or as landrover call it the spill return line, only returns a very small amont of fuel to the fuel pump and i think there is a one way valve so that it should never be under any pressure. Therefore it is quite possible that a spill return hose could be letting air into the sytem but not leaking fuel. Go to a landrover part shop, ask for about 0.5 meter of spill hose ,which will probably cost less than a quid, cut into 3 and fit to engine. Your problem may be more complicated than this ,but for not much money and very little time you can rule out this potential fault and prevent it happening in the future or you might even cure your fault!
  9. Perished injector bleed off hoses? Short hoses that connect the injectors and return any unrequired fuel to the diesel tank. After about 10 years these fail allowing air to get into the fuel system making starting difficult.
  10. How long is it and what diameter are the bullet and shell case?
  11. New saws are set too rich , so that they don't rev so high and will lubricate better. Therefore it is important to have it retuned , for maximum power , after it has been run for 3-4 hours.
  12. Who is responsible for the annual trimming of the feild hedges - you or the landlord? The hedge has not been trimmed for a number of years and is clearly encroching on the highway !

    new tractor

Red diesel is O.K for forestry. You can tax tractors online - you have to say that it does have a MOT certificate even though it is exempt. Does the tractor have a current tax disc ? It may not be straight forward if the tax has expired and the tractor has not been registered SORN.
  14. Are you quoting payload figures ? I would be expecting the answer to be about 500kg for an unbraked trailer and about 1000kg for a braked trailer.
  15. Very impressed by the Greenmech chippers with their no stress feed control - little engines blowing chip a long way ! Wanted to see the bigger PTO machines but was still an hour well spent. Thanks to everyone envolved.

    Husqvarna 45

There were a lot of 45 parts on ebay a couple of weeks ago - don't forget to look for 40 parts as they are basically the same saw - except for cylinder and piston.

    new saw

    Don't forget the VAT:sneaky2:
  18. Kwik-chip They also sell RSC in 0.058" guage for Husky saws
  19. The 359 should be the cheapest as it has the least power and the lowest RRP.The 357xp is a professional higher reving saw giving it more power and a lower weight and therefore should be the most expensive. I was looking for a new saw in september and thaught that the 357xp would be an ideal saw for up to 20" fire wood but could take a longer bar for any thing bigger.Husqvarna only recommend this saw for upto a 20" bar and don't seem to make a longer bar in this motor mount.Oregon make bars upto 28" in K095 but only 24" seems to be available in UK In the end I went for a 365 with 20" bar which seems to have plenty of grunt even in old oak.Oregon make bars upto 36" in the D009 mount which will fit this saw - O.k not ideal I know but if you take it steady it got to be quicker than continually swapping sides especially if your cuts don't line up:blushing:
  20. 600 Kg fertiliser bags are not reusable but 1/2 tonne cattle feed bags are great - just like builders bags only taller.
  21. Its a shadow - Caused by taking a photo with the sun behind you:lol:
  22. Which sprocket and chain do you have on your saw ? 3/8" pitch , 7 tooth sprocket = 21.4 m/s @ 9600 rpm 0.325" pitch,7 tooth sprocket = 18.5 m/s @ 9600 rpm
