  1. AL181666 - £255 + VAT = £306 Have you tried Selotape ?
  2. Since the hunting ban they aren't getting enough exercise!
  3. I would just buy a discovery commercial - Cheaper and you can claim the VAT back:thumbup:
  4. As previously said get one with a heavy machined base:thumbup1: Had a couple of le creuset kettles but the base soon warped:thumbdown: Currently using a stainless steel " master class " kettle on the oil fired Rayburn - easy to keep clean and always boiling when half on the hotplate with stove on tickover.Used it on the woodburner over christmas because the rayburn went out( 2 years since I last serviced it:blushing:)Best kettle We've had - About 5 year old now
  5. I remember seeing a picture of one of these machines in the 1988/9 Mc connel newsletter. It was " trimming " south african boxthorn hedges in New Zealand

    Firebricks

The baffle plate on my aarrow rests on top of the fire bricks. Yes you can use it without the bricks but without the baffle more heat goes out the rear flue pipe and the door glass doesn't keep so clean. So your burning more wood and getting less heat out:thumbdown:

Spark plugs look very simple but do contain resistors and capacitors. These can break down when hot after running for a few seconds or minutes. Therefore you might well get a spark when cold.If in doubt change the plug they only costs a couple of quid.

    Quickie

As far as I'm aware the bar mountings are the same for both saws . The 039 was marketed at farmers , builders and firewood - original cutting equipment was a 10 tooth nose sprocket (smaller tip radius = less kickback) and RMC 3/8" chain (semi chisel round corner = stays sharper in dirty wood) The 660 is a professional saw - original cutting equipment is a 11 tooth nose sprocket (larger tip radius = better boring and longer lasting) and RSC 3/8" chain (full chisel square corner = faster cutting) So different bars and chains for different jobs:thumbup:
  12. If I remember rightly the PTO is engaged with a lever like a handbrake - a bit of cleaning , lubricating and adjustment should be all it needs.
  13. A small nose radius doesn't bore so well as a large nose radius.
  14. All you need is a large log table at waist height then once its up its easy:thumbup: But I would quarter them with the saw whilst the kids split them up:biggrin:
  15. I've never had the misfortune of owning a 885, but most tractors of a similar vintage don't have a glow plug on each cylinder, but have a single heater plug, with its own diesel suply ,on the air intake. If this is working correctly you will feel it getting quite hot or you can test the electrical circuit with a spare light bulb.

    what sprocket?

On my 365 I use 7 tooth with 20" bar but 8 tooth with 15"
  17. Yes - The diesel will combine with dust to form a slurry which will prevent the solanoid from sending current to the starter motor.
  18. Mainly been burning Oak this year , but have had to mix in some August felled Ash ,to get the heat up a bit during the cold spell.
  19. squeezed a 115 Ah 665 tractor battery into my 300tdi - standard only 75 Ah Ideally for winching you should have two batteries and a split charge system.
  20. How about a longer bolt with a new nut behind the captive nut ?
  21. I'm guessing your original bolt was 10mm and that you were replacing with a 3/8" because it was about the same size.A 3/8" thread has 16 tpi so the helicoil tap will have also cut 16 tpi but the hole diameter will be bigger.A 7/16" bolt has 14 tpi and a 1/2" bolt has 13 tpi so none of these will fit.M10 and M11 bolts are 16.9 tpi but will be too small for your new hole as well ,as the wrong pitch, and a M12 bolt is 14.5 tpi so also no good .You may still be able to drill and tap the hole to M12 but this may require a bigger hole on the plate that carries the jockey wheel.
  22. I think all chains are 0.025" exccept 0.404" pitch chains which are 0.030":001_rolleyes:
