  1. this looks like the one, seems like good value : DELEKS 5M LOG BELT CONVEYOR Price includes VAT, Delivery and Warranty (2 Years) Forestry and Hedging in Macclesfield | Auto Trader Farm
  2. Not big in saws more on excavators but had a basic Husky for years and it was great decided to splash out and get a 550 after reading the reviews. Did about an hours sawing and the bar and chain was overheating took it back to the suppliers who after 10 days said it was fine and they had fixed it ,got it back and after 15 mins bar and chain really hot again see photos ,the oil is going down but only a very fine mist off the bar end at full revs with the oil control full open ,cleaned all the oil channels. my old saw used to fling a fair bit of oil off the chain but you have to look hard to see the oil from this is this normal for the 550?
  3. We put quick couplings on both the hydraulic pipes just below the top joint on the back actor taking out the bucket operation ,leaving enough slack for the extendahoe I have a power cable going to the rotator which allows me to divert fluid from the rotator to the grab I hold a small switch in my hand which allows me to switch the bucket control lever from open and close grab to left /right rotate works really well I should have some photos of the connection in a week or so .
  4. Got one on my 3cx with rotator ,works very well without the extra hydraulic service ,you definately need the rotator , not handling big timber any more so you are welcome to have a look Im in north Powys trouble is I'm working away till the 26th Feb .
  5. I dont think your science is up to date have a look at these : First, work on the affinity of char & MYC & microbes; Mycorrhizal responses to biochar in soil – concepts and mechanisms Daniel D. Steiner, at U of GA, showing a 52% reduction of NH3 loss when char is used as a composting accelerator. This will have profound value added consequences for the commercial composting industry by reduction of their GHG emissions and the sale of compost as a nitrogen fertilizer. http://www.ibi2010.org/wp-content/uploads/BiocharPoultrySteiner.pdf Proliferation of Microorganisms in Compost by Addition of Bamboo Charcoals (Shuji Yoshizawa, Michio Ohata, Satoko Tanaka) SEM photograph of microorganism in bamboo charcoal. In Japan, charcoal and compost of biomass waste have been used for a long time as soil improvers in farms. Wood and bamboo charcoals have pores of several microns or several ten microns which are suitable for microorganisms grown for composting the biomass waste. It was observed as shown in the photograph (left) taken by scanning electron micrograph (SEM) technique that the microorganisms proliferated on the charcoal powder and in the pores of the charcoal. http://acer.meisei-u.ac.jp/doc/acernews2/index_en.html Michinori Nishio National Institute of Agro-Environmental Sciences Kannondai 3-1-1, Tsukuba, Ibaraki 305 Japan, 1996-10-01 This Bulletin discusses microbial products in Japan, where they are used on many farms, particularly by organic farmers who hope that these products will improve nutrient uptake by plants and the quality of their products. It discusses the use of charcoal and rhizobia to stimulate nutrient uptake, and the use of arbuscular mycorrizal fungi (AMF) to help establish vegetation on barren land. The range of commercial AMF products available in Japan is briefly described, and their use and effectiveness in Japanese agriculture.Microbial Fertilizers in Japan Microbial Fertilizers in Japan | Biochar Discussion List Web Site Transect graph showing plant benefits decline beyond to 30% Char; Figure 1. 6. What is your source for Terra Preta being produced naturally and not produced (artificially)by amazonian indians as accepted by most researchers
  7. Biochar is charcoal it was naturally produced by forest fires for millions of years If you go to the World Soil Archive in the Netherlands:biggrin: on average 10 to 20% of the soils are black carbon (source J Lehman Proff of Soil Biochemistry Cornell ) Why import terra preta when we can make our own ? You are very knowledgable on fungus ,Fungus You need to get up to speed on the what is being achieved with Biochar .Biochar can be produced by all the members on this forum easily and in the future could be another income stream for them. as an Academic I'm sure you consider this as grubby commercialism but we can't all fly desks
  8. Biochar /terra preta Lasted over 2000 years in the Amazon what time frame were you thinking of ?Biochar does not introduce mycorrhiza into the soil it holds moisture /raises PH and stops fertiliser leaching away whats not to like ?
  9. I hear what you say but there is plenty of poor hill ground in the UK that may benefit I have been running a trial with biochar on nursery grown Chestnut and oak started last autumn as yet no difference to the control but have noticed a difference in grass growth on peaty soils this could be down to the high ph of biochar reducing the acidity ,will let you know how it goes
  10. Seem to know your subject Gerrit whats your view on Biochar providing 'accomodation' for micorrizals (see Johannes Lehman Proff of Biogiochemistry at Cornell, lecture on You tube )
  11. I use Belmont Regency 01332 362367 for my tractors ,cheaper than F U Wales I found .
  12. How did you go one with the TR70 ? PhilG working OK ?
  13. Anyone seen this on you tube ? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EvqBWzJvqE]YouTube - The Trucker ~ master reverser.[/ame] Damn fine driving
  14. have a look at Wood Gasification (Log) Boiler Experience? Discusses all types of down burning gasifying wood heating boilers and [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJaveSG6W28&feature=related]YouTube - Vigas Wood Fuelled Boiler - Part 1 of 2[/ame] The Vigas is from Eastern Europe not as featured as the ETA but about half the price you must have a accumalator tank and a Laddomat to control heat distribution in the tank . Hope this helps
