  9. Here's a Cercis siliquastrum, that I planted four years ago. Although the tree has a northern aspect, it does get a good deal of daylight. Watered regularly. It has never flowered and has now suffered two consecutive years of something that looks akin to mineral deficiency. It is however, putting on new extension growth to compensate. I'm leaning towards either a lack of zinc or magnesium. Very happy to be corrected and/or educated otherwise. Any opinions?
  10. 10.56 - 11.45 Yeah, those long buisness breakfasts take sooo long . .
  11. Turns out the word we were looking for is actualy Assart. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assarting Learning something new, all the time. .

  14. Friends is a tad bit strong, Helen is chief ecologist at Burnham Beeches. One of our Sister sites. The phone call was work related (Ref; to our potential involvement in repollarding some of their Beeches) .
  15. Anything nearer North London Dave? Vespa's in the body shop at the moment due to ending up on the deck twice within 24hrs last week. So without wheels, something more local would be good. .
  16. Has anyone come across this term before. I have recently heard it in conversation relating to veteran hedgerow trees. I can not find any reference to it in either Peterkin or Rackham, and whilst on the blower earlier today, not even Helen Read could shed any light on the subject. Any ideas fellas? .
  17. Would appreciate it Peter. Thanks for your input. .
  18. Andy, you forgot to mention the soon to be re-opened Saudi plane deal inquiry. That time bomb is just about to stop ticking Time to get ourselves a Butch type lid, and head for them there bunkers. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7492745.stm .
  19. Crikey ! Great photo post Is that just end weight acting against what looks like, old partialy opened included branch union, or is the staining evidence of decay? Can't really tell from the picture What ya gonna do Iain? .
  20. At a request from a local artist, I have been on the hunt for any Populus nigra ( Black poplar.) On a tip off from a colleague, I had a look at a couple of local trees today. Seeing them on the side of the highway makes me siddle away from them being nigra's, so my guess is that these are Poplus x canadensis (Hybrid Black poplars) Thought I had a shot of the tree in situe, but must of deleted it. Tree is appox 18-20m, but having been pollarded (sic) and looks to be on a 5-7 year cycle. 1st on the branch 2nd top side 3rd underside. Btw, the leafstalk is very flat. Have tried the usual suspects, Mitchell, Dorling Kindersley et al., and I'm none the wiser. Any thoughts fellas ? Also, anyone know of any Black Pops in London.
