  1. Hi everyone, it's been a while since I last posted as I stopped selling firewood several years ago. I'm looking to recommence selling this winter on a small scale as I'm still getting phone calls but unable to process myself. Are there any suppliers of 45 x 60cm firewood nets (seasoned hard or soft), and also kindling via pallet or local delivery? Postcode is E4 7RA. Many thanks!
  2. Once again a quick cold snap has led to panic buying and our firewood store looking slightly empty! As a result I'm looking for quotes for Seasoned Softwood or Soft/Hard Mix Nets in 45cm x 60cm. Interested in quantites of between 3-400 Nets delivered (if possible) to E4 7RA. Please PM if you would be able to supply with quote. Thanks!
  3. What would you say it costs per click for a good response?
  4. Just out of interest how do you guys go about sourcing this stuff? Who would you suggest visiting locally? Do you buy it in or are the suppliers just grateful to get it off their hands? Thanks!
  5. Sorry for a lack of input everyone - I've been away in Devon enjoying the summer sunshine on the beach Loads of great feedback guys it's all appreciated! The website is flash as I use a popular flash based online webiste builder. Would there be a significant difference regarding traffic if it was in HTML? I'm in no ways an expert on the subject but my website costs very little and was reasonably succesful last year.
  6. I've been busy beavering away with my new website for the last couple of weeks and just wanted some feedback on the design/content. Anything which shouts out at you please let me know - any critiscisms kindly welcomed (within reason hehe) The majority of my sales last year came from my website so I thought I'd go up a gear and introduce an online order form. Has anyone else tried this? I want to start taking payments online aswell but have decided to go for paypal invoicing to start of with. Has anyone got experience of taking online payments for logs - are there any major problems you've come across? Thanks!
  7. I used to cut all of my kindling by hand but soon got bored of it. My firewood to kindling net ratio probably works at around 10:1. It's very time consuming, I don't think you can ever justify doing kindling by hand as being a sustainable method. Per the hour, you'll always earn more on the firewood. I'd always reccomend buying it in - you mite be giving someone else a slice of your pie but you'll end up selling a better product for less hassle
  8. I'd love to take chippings if I knew what to do with them...other than mulching that is
  9. I sell firewood and have lost a tree surgeon who tipped his arb arisings here quite regularly. I am happy to take rings and any long stuff up to a length of 1 metre - no chippings though sorry! Everything is processed through a chainsaw/log splitter so must be moveable by hand. We have good access and available throughout the week. If your interested, please PM me with details.

  11. Very positive feedback so far from my listing - two phone calls this morning straight from the directory Seems to be producing some very good leads!
  12. Had the pleasure of seeing my loggys get their big break on TV last night . Volkswagen used our farm to film their '60 years of man with van' advert and low and behold whilst munching on my pudding in front of the TV last night, on came my logs! Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (UK) | Buy a VW van today They appear for only a second or two but what the hell - they're on the pick-up towards the end of the advert. Quite a nice advert actually...makes me want a VW
  13. I struggled to keep my eyes on the screen let alone doing that for real! I'll stick to my Husky - I prefer the sharp spinny bits to face away from me personally
  14. Holy cow that's some serious traffic...interesting how the majority of traffic is firewood related I think my stats are some what insignificant in comparison...oh well size isnt everything... Analytics Report.pdf
  15. Do we have any initial data on impressions/hits for the site and for website driven draffic from the listings yet out of interest? I love the layout and the google map feature - the big juicy space around Essex/East London is definatly tempting
  16. I usually fill a wheelbarrow up with all the rough stuff and leave it next to where I sell all my wood with a sign. Don't get to many takers if I'm honest but better than nothing
  17. After spending a good three hours today hand chopping 30 bags of kindling, the thought of buying my kindling in is very tempting . Anyone local to Chingford (E4 7RA) within an hours drive or so with kindling? Looking for 50-100 nets depending on size to start of with. Many thanks
  18. I currently source all my wood from a friend whos a Tree Surgeon I know but demand appears to be increasing beyond my enevitable supply. Obviously there's very little I can do about that this season but I don't want to be in the same situation next year Now I'm assuming there must be some demand from Tree Surgeons to have their arb waste removed - how can I tap into this? It's one thing when friends are doing eachother a favour but how do I go about approaching other tree surgeons? Everything I process is done with a chainsaw and axe and thats how I'd like to keep things. If I was to approach another firm and ask if they want any wood removed free of charge am I expecting too much? I don't want to go down the avenue of buying wood in when there appears to be a potetially free source available - the lower my overheads the bigger my profit
  19. Well I feel truely small scale...
  20. Maybe I'm just full of youth and energy but I find something satisfying about working the axe and chainsaw for a good couple of hours. Nothing beats seeing my stockpile of logs slowly grow Per the hour, you can't complain about the pay! And on the plus side - no need for gym membership
  21. Im trying to decide at what point do you consider buying a processor, is it a matter of when when you can't meet demand or is it a basic requirement these days? I had envisaged myself employing someone when I couldn't keep up with demand but would I be better of making the investment now rather than later in a processor? Money invested in a processor is safe to a certain degree, money on wages will never be seen again as far as I can work out? I can't decide how large scale I should go - I'm quite happy chugging away with my little Husqvarna and axe at the moment but I can't help but think of next season... Thanks all once again

  23. Thanks for all the ideas! I'll have to look into the local parish newsletters could be on to something there! Regarding advertisement boards; we hold car boot sales every sunday and previously had a board by the road which was held up with a couple of pieces of timber. Low and behold after a few weeks of making the thing a complaint had been sent to the local council and we had to remove it as it constituted a structure requiring planning permission! Keep any big signs on trailors - council can't do a thing if it's on wheels
  24. Hi everyone this is my first post here but I've been following the forum for many moons now. This is my second year selling firewood and really I just wanted some advice on how to step things up a gear sales wise. Last winter was my first attempt and I already have had a couple of enquires from previous happy customers which can't be a bad thing! All my wood is sourced from a tree surgeon for free and is coming in copious amounts which i have seasoned all year... I have designed my own website A.J.R Firewood & Kindling and just wanted any input from fellow firewood sellers on their first impressions. Is there anything which strikes you as glaringly obvious that I've missed out? The content isn't all there but you can get the gist of it! Any pointers on design are also appreciated Also, what advice do people have for spreading the word? Good customer service should advertise for it's self but what else can I do? I've got myself on google maps and am planning a big leaflet drop (lots of good exercise if all else fails ) in my local area with a couple of notices in local shops. What should be my next step in increasing sales? Newspaper adds seem a tad expensive for the return I'll see...any ideas people? Thank you for any help in advance - this place has been a great source of information and I'm really appreciative of any new ideas!
