Cracking idea that Gerbutt, thanks mate. Think 1st port of call tomorrow will be to grab one in town, might get a few funny looks from young mums though
-
Always seems to be more theft around this time of year, friend of mine had people snooping around his yard last week.
Sorry to hear that Tom, hope nothing ill comes of it for your friend. I'm just infuriated someone had the nerve to go snooping, feels like they've been in the house to be honest.
-
Evenin' all,
Has anyone else in the Huddersfield area had people snooping around lately ?
Other night a few people have been in my garden snooping around looking for my kit, few days back I had the saw out to start it up and check it over since it's been awhile since I've been on a job. As a result I've dragged all my kit back into the house and my saw [ It was in the shed ]
Either way, just curious if anyone else has had thieves snooping on them too or if this is just an isolated case. They've done a fair bit of damage in the garden, bashed my mums Leylandii up along with a lot of her plants, pyracantha and box trees along with ragging down a load of her trellis from when they did a bunk over the wall.
Edit : Forgot to say, they didn't make off with anything, but I think thats more to do with I'm up most of the night with keeping long hours and I'm guessing they did a runner when they heard the back door being opened up or saw lights being turned on in the house. Hope its warning to folks to be more vigilant with the run upto Xmas, thieving sods are rampant this time of the year sadly.

I mess about on BlackOps, its a good laugh but its just an arcade shooter at heart, much better on the PC to be honest than consoles.

Nice to hear you're back home Dave, hope you have a speedy recovery

I can't believe what I've just read in the news apparently a group of Muslims where protesting near Hyde park burning a large poppy:cursing:
I can't write on here how I truly feel about this! Hope I haven't put a dampener on such a good thread I'm just shocked it can go on in our country shame all those students didn't head down there and put there anger into something more worthwhile
That's just disgusting by them to do that, its a Rememberance day it's got bugger all to do with whether the current Wars are right or wrong, something seriously wrong in their heads to behave in such a distasteful manner on an important day.
I always have the utmost respect for Servicemen and women all over the globe to do a job that many can't do. My cousin has just joined up to go into the Combat Engineers - I just hope he doesn't join the ranks of the fallen anytime soon.
- Lest we forget

Ello one and all,
After a load more blood tests turns out I don't have Glandular fever and to quote the Quack '' It's just a viral infection '' that knocked me on my behind.. lol
Either way I'm over the thick of it now and ready to go back to work, if anyones got work going in the Huddersfield area feel free to give me a shout on here and I'll send you my mobile in a PM
Cheers,
- Mike

-
Looks painful to say the least, hope he heals up soon.

General Heads up - I'm out of action for the moment due to illness, after a 1st lot of blood tests and X-Rays to check for Lymphoma, it looks like I have a nasty dose of EBV [Glandular fever] I'll be back n forth a bit with Hospital and more blood tests/ultrasound and the like.
Hopefully I'll be fighting fit again soon and hope you lucky buggers who got to go to the APF had a cracking time, take care of yourselves.

Was sent this by a friend, hope it helps you out mate, certainly an option worth considering rather than having Chemo or the barrage of drugs they tank you up with.

Here's a simple fact
My Santander Individual Savings Account (ISA) Statement
Balance brought forward March 2009 £12,689.51
Interest £12.69
Balance at Close March 2010 £12702.20
Yes, that is correct, an interest rate of 0.001% on their flagship savings account. Has anyone seen this number plastered all over their shop window?
It is all headline rates to attract new money but once it is in the coffers and your back is turned... and then they wonder why Joe public is baying for their blood. Scum.
As they don't put the rate on the statement you have to work it out for yourself so if anyone else has a Santander ISA over one year old they should check the rate and really kick off if they find a similar stunt has been pulled.
Thats disgusting behaviour on their part, but it seems to be the case with these sorry lot. As said when I first signed up I wasn't told there'd be any trouble with transferring from Santander to an external bank, but when I want to the '' system is down and they dont know when itll be back up ''
With this though I just had a quick gander on the FSA Website, interesting snippet here I'm going to use tomorrow when I get the rest of my cash out [ If they cut up funny and try to stonewall me ]
Firms advertising financial products or services must make sure their promotions are fair, clear and do not mislead you. Promotions can be:* adverts in the media (eg radio, press, television);
* direct mail sent to your home;
* leaflets or posters;
* letters to customers;
* shop window advertising;
* telephone calls;
* teletext;
* emails; and
* websites.
If we find that an advert is misleading we may do any of the following:
* ask the firm to change the advert;
* ask the firm to withdraw it;
* ask the firm to write to customers who may have been misled and compensate them if they’ve lost money as a result;
* warn the firm; or
* fine the firm.
So on that basis Mark, you're well within your rights to lodge a complaint and maybe even get reimbursed for what Santander did with your money along with deliberately misleading you.
Hope that helps mate.

mike, sorry to sound so dumb but what has the halifax (HBOS) got to do with santander? i thought lloyds took over HBOS:confused1:
Halifax was the original Bank I was with, thought moving over to Santander was a good idea and found out otherwise.

Fairly True
To be honest, I try to judge people by how they act/behave towards me and others. I've come accross folks with tiny houses but extremely generous and warm spirited, whereas a job a couple of weeks back working for a fairly well to do Lady was the most miserable, miserly type I've encountered yet. Peeing it down with rain like a monsoon, high winds freezing my goolies off and she stood smiling at us with a warm cup of tea in her nice warm lounge with bay windows... seething with anger would be an understatement
But on that same note, have worked for some extremely wealthy people who are the most down to earth and friendly types you could wish to work for and chat to.. so it's a mixed bag in my own experience.

Well you are a Yorkshireman Darren...

Thought I'd share an experience I've had with these sorry lot.
When I first went to Santander I was thinking of swapping accounts from the Halifax due to some extortionate overdraft charges. When I went in, went in with my Suit on, nice watch and got treated like Royalty and told I'd get the 100 GBP bonus for swapping accounts with them...
Over a Month later, went in today to transfer some money over to my mums accounts at Halifax. At the front desk I got snubbed and a muttered '' Go to the main cashiers to do that '' - despite when I first went in with a suit I got ushered to a nice quiet room to do everything.. maybe its to do with the fact I had my berghaus jacket, jeans and a baseball cap on.
Get to the Cashier counter, '' Sorry Sir all our external transfer facilities are down and have been for some time, we don't know when it'll be back up '' - They failed to mention this when I first signed up with them. Then I get told if I want to move the money all over to the Halifax, I'll be charged for a Telegraph transfer.
One very angry thinking session over with in the street decided b*llocks to it. Went in demanded my money be done by a Cheque, to which they tried to snub me off saying I had to write my own cheque but finally got the Manager involved and got the money payable out to myself. Went back to the Halifax and they fell over themselves to set me up with new savings accounts and the like.
What really angers me in all of this is how some people in the Finance sector, not all obviously but some behave like total utter snobby jumped up guttersnipes. Go in with a suit '' you must be somebody '' but go in from doing jobs in the Garden and the house and they treat you like a bloody leper and the irony of it all is that if they were clued up they'd have clocked the expensive Tag Heuer I was wearing but instead they persisted in talking down to me like I was a lowlife scumbag and trying to fob me off with a load of Bull.
Anyone else had similar fun and games with other Banks or Santander they'd like to share ? Because I'm damn sure I'm not the first one to be looked down upon for what clothes you're wearing.

Might be a bit of a detour for you but South Somerset/Devon Border near Wellington there's a firm called '' Willis & Grabham '' decent enough prices and staff are friendly & knowledgable. Hope that helps
-
'fraid I can't make it, will be in Manchester with family this weekend - hope you guys have a good time.

Priceless

Good Advert/CV Sean
If you're looking for work around the West country area - could apply to work for Hi Line based out of Exeter and Bridgwater or the other company I know of down that way is Arboricare - think either would be interested in taking you on with your Quals and own kit.
Hope that helps mate, good luck.
I'm getting fat!! HELP!!!
