I pay a good subbie climber £150 a day, he turns up does the job we have a laugh we all go home, I would have no issue paying what someone is worth, but when you get bad egg after bad egg it makes you think is it worth all the hassle! Starting to think no is the answer.

I spoke to a 39 yr old yesterday who claimed to have 7 yr experience ability to tow, cs30 31 only, he asked what pay would be I thought as he is a bit older probably with better worth ethic I said around £10 an hour on paye, job and knock 5 weeks paid hol & bank hols. Not enough I was told! 20k a year for quals he had is surely a fair price? Its slowly grinding me down to the point that I dont wanna do the job.

Lol not always the case. You can throw loads of money at a monkey but its still just a monkey.
I agree a decent pay should get you better people but they need the right attitude also
Exactly, I have spoke to numerous people who genuinely think they should be on £120 a day on paye dragging brash!
Wages are more than fair and I emphasise thst the more they prove their worth the more they get paid.
They seem to think that no matter what they do they will automatically be on top whack!

After a year of staff issues i am debating if its better to take someone on with tickets or start somebody from scratch!
I have had groundsmen with a few tickets that have come and being a pile of shite, turn up late, wreck tackle, cant be arsed doing the job right, seem to be no good ones around here despite offering decent pay.
Had lads that have never touched a tree before that start off alright then after a month don't wanna carry on as its hard work!
Tried self employed and its just not cost effective to use them all the time + you can never drop on when you need them.
Would be nice to get a climber in that i can send out with groundsman but as we do domestic tree work & commercial + all the **** jobs in between ie hedge cutting folk just are not interested, i can no longer be on site, out quoting + doing all the other important stuff, don't wanna keep investing time in people that don't wanna graft!

Can't find a interactive map, but there's four pages of actual TPO's to wade through and on the CA's are available to download. Not that helpful but better than nothing.

Crew cab would be ok but a bit restricted as to what you can keep inside, higher loading height for ride on would have me worried a bit with other lads loading. would be more versatile.

Trying to figure out what van would be best for a team of 2 doing mostly grounds maintenance...Panel van or tipper would have more flexibility with a tipper as it could be used for carrying chip logs etc when not grass cutting, but there's nowhere to secure tackle.
A panel van however could have everything locked away on site lower loading height for ride on etc...and cheaper to buy.

what about hiring a mini skidsteer with a auger, boxer, kanga etc. theyll go anywhere a wheelbarrow will go access wise.
Got a vermeer skid steer...it wont fit

No access! All hedging & trees are out can only just get grinder in, 2 foot narrow ginnell down side of house then around 20 steps down to courtyard and a few back up! Will be a killer!!!

A piece of timber on each left & right end post fixed on with thunder bolts of concrete screws I think they call em. Then just hang your gate off that, solid.
Just dig the hole your going to swing it off a bit bigger and put more concrete in so it doesn't move.
I wouldn't do it with anything other than a pedestrian gate prob will be bit too heavy.

I think the amount of training that is required to get somebody half way ticketed means individuals are less likely to put themselves through courses, more cost to the employer I think cs 30 31 is around £1000 aerial rescue same, wages paid while they are doing training, £450 on ppe, it takes me around 2 weeks to get somebody going to a level your not repeating yourself, the lack of good hardworking lads are few and far between so it makes you reluctant to invest in people.
I can take someone on doing grounds maintenance and in a day get them going, training....their int non! Ppe is £100 for decent clobber day rate is still the same...much more choice of staff as its a different skill set, your not riving yourself about all day....think it might be time for a change.
